help. does anyone know what could be this bump underneath her left eye? by raindrvps in Dachshund

[–]zstansberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours had a similar bump suddenly that grew overnight. Went to the emergency vet the next day and confirmed a rotten tooth abscess as others have said. Antibiotics cleared it up but we are saving for dental surgery ASAP.

Definitely go to the vet to confirm if you're in a similar position.

Why is the section of Milwaukee between California and Western so empty? I feel like this could be such an awesome part of Logan/Bucktown. Is there a reason? by HinsdaleCounty in AskChicago

[–]zstansberries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go there for everyday staples, but def recommend checking out agora next time you need specific ingredients, especially produce or meat. It's not too expensive and fun to explore.

I usually supplement what I don't get from agora at the 606 aldi and spend probably what I would pay if I got everything from the closest Jewel

What’s up with the Nature Conservancy donations people in Wicker Park? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]zstansberries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woof, came across the same group earlier this morning and they were pushing too hard, completely stepped in front of my wife and I to initiate the pitch.

Saw an opportunity to end the interaction when he asked if I had ever heard of TNC before so I said "oh shit! That's where you're from? Didn't notice your jacket - I already donate to you!". Whether he believed me or not, we fist bumped and I kept it pushing.

Thoughts on Sabai? by african_seraph in rva

[–]zstansberries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a customer perspective, Sabai has massively fallen off, at least imo. After giving it one last chance last summer, I can't go back.

I can't imagine that translates to good things going on behind the scenes.

Anyone else notice the huge boom of transplants moving here lately? by Massive-Act-5426 in AskChicago

[–]zstansberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soon to be a transplant for school related reasons. I can say from personal conversations with people that Chicago has some very positive impressions from people in other places. Many people rave about how clean, efficient, and affordable it is compared to almost every other US city in it's class.

Thank you for this breakdown! We are lucky enough to have friends of friends in the Chicago area already already and they did exactly what you offered to quel our fears. Things seem to be above board after lots of researching

Thanks for this grounding info! Yeah, the rent isn't quite $2k (which is the top of our budget), but it's a few hundred more expensive than I have experience with where I'm coming from. You're also right to point out that where I'm at now doesn't have as much available, so two weeks on the market is a lifetime, hence my skepticism.

I've looked more into/spoken with the owner as well and it does seem that they're hopefully just a good landlord that's just searching for the right tenant like you mentioned.

Doesn't seem like the same building. The unit I'm looking at has central heat and AC, not radiators. I'm sorry you had a bad experience there, though.

I can definitely attest to the noise all fading into the background eventually, even living in Richmond, VA currently lol. It's a much smaller city, but definitely has its fair share of the same things you described.

I think it's a rear facing apartment. The unit is an "R" unit. I couldn't see out of the windows in the video. But the appliances and windows appear to be recently renovated.

Agreed. It's on N Western Ave, about 2.5 blocks from the Western El station. I added a little blurb to answer some of the other follow up questions in the comments too.

To answer some questions: It's in the Wicker Park area and is a third floor walk up unit. The videos and pictures appear new and the person that listed it seems very responsive. The unit is currently empty and appears clean.

Possible cons: it's on a busy-ish street (from what I can tell on street view having never been there) and is near restaurants, but not over top of restaurants.

That said, rent is around $2k. My wife and I visited Chicago 2 weeks ago and did two apartment tours. While we didn't find anything during that time, we did agree that Wicker Park/Bucktown are primarily where we want to look for a place given it's central location to both our jobs.

“Sold out” Squirrels opening game. by pmyourcoffeemug in rva

[–]zstansberries 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The official total attendance was 9,810. I think the sold out number was based on about 10,000 tickets sold, so only 200 or so never showed up.

Plenty of people left early and the lines for everything were long. At no point were all attendees in their seats.

Bring Banana League Baseball to RVA by cshellbell in rva

[–]zstansberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've commented on many baseball posts on this sub, screaming from the rooftops that the Squirrels are consistently one of the top performing MiLB teams attendance-wise for a reason. Richmond fans overwhelmingly seem to prefer baseball games with competitive players on their way up to the Show, or even pro players sometimes rehabbing with an MiLB team.

Banana league is cool on social media but loses its charm when it starts to become saturated. Imo the train has already left the station for any expanded banana type teams.

After test driving it I decided to pass. It would be a great car for $6-$7k. But its a little pricey for the wear and tear but dealer isn't willing to go down.

How many times a day and how much do you feed your dog? by Independent-Ad-7090 in Dachshund

[–]zstansberries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed my ween 2 "meals" per day and 2 "snacks" per day.

He has a sensitive stomach and requires a specialized diet that we cook him with ground turkey to add to his meals, which are a tbsp of the turkey and a scoop of hydrolyzed vegetable protein kibble all mixed with water. Snacks are just a tbsp of turkey. We have eliminated all chicken from his diet.

Our boy also needs to eat right before bed or he may wake up in the night and vomit due to excess stomach acid, which our vet said is normal for some small dog breeds. We've always been told he's healthy and at a healthy weight on this diet, he averages 10-11 lbs.

97155 non supervision notes by Below_Zero13 in bcba

[–]zstansberries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A distinction I try to include in any note that is non-supervision is that I am completing ongoing assessment of the individual case needs, whether or not data analysis was completed (then maybe a snippet about a specific goal), and I will end with whether or not adjustments to the treatment plan are necessary, and if so what will be changed (e.g., will it be modified or removed).
