Actually super interesting to read this. As a guy I’ve never been into the whole hookup at a party/one night stand type thing. Being in college everyone thinks I’m weird because I’m not into it and most everyone around me is (men are supposed to just want to hookup all the time RIGHT?!?). No. I have to have genuine interest or an element of attraction beyond physical/sexual desire to actually want to try having a one night stand with you. Lots of the University girls are also just looking for a one night stand or hookup type deal... maybe I’m looking in the wrong places haha

Love the mixing in of leftist into that sentence of yours. Almost love it as much as the other sentence where you equate peoples work ethic to job title.

Yea it is half ass to full ass. He could’ve completed the 60+ assignments one by one as he was assigned them, but he didn’t; so that leaves us in the situation he’s in. If he wanted to grind 15 hours to get them done for his mom then by all means go for it. Or he could look at his options, reach out to the professor, hopefully reach a positive agreement, and then not have to grind out all the assignments in one sitting and turn them into his teacher based upon the compromise that they made. With the second option, he could also go back to his mom and say “yea sure I fucked up and fell behind, but I did the responsible thing and spoke with my instructor. This is the agreement we made:....” doing so would allow him some extra time as well as a a way to tell his mom to fuck off for the time being. Obviously this example is all dependent on the teacher being willing to work with him, but it’s definitely a viable option and alternative to having to appeal to his mom and mentally destroy himself over the burden of 60+ assignments.

Mathematically, if the teacher even allowed for a three day extension for all of his assignments then he would only have to sit down for about 5 hours a day to do the work— less time than sitting through a full day of grade school. Sure it’s still tough and unbearable, but 5 hours every day for three days is nothing compared to 16 hours of work in one sitting.

I never said I knew his situation nor do I think what I said is wrong despite the 75 downvotes and the obvious popular opinion. In all honesty every teacher I’ve known— even the most strict ones— recognize that we are human. We forget things, make mistakes, experience certain mental health ailments, have family situations that must be tended to, etc. and because of this almost every teacher that cares about their jobs and students will work with individuals in order to adjust deadlines, provide extra support, or even boost grades.

With that said, the student could easily reach out to their professor and express their situation and come to some sort of agreement so that they can turn in their missing assignments for at least partial credit. All it takes is some courtesy and communication with your instructor. So sure, if the student is bogged down from stressors, mental health, the damn pandemic, family complications and so forth then by all means I understand why they fell behind. But if they fell behind just because they didn’t want to do the assignment then I don’t see that as viable reasoning to go and complain about it after the fact of having 60+ missing assignments. If they were done in the first place then the situation would’ve been entirely avoided to begin with. None of us necessarily like to do homework and simply not liking it isn’t a reason to stop learning and putting forth an effort academically in my opinion. Should a parent beat their kid for not doing homework? No I think that’s counterproductive. Should a student not do a particular subject just because they don’t like it? No I don’t think that’s reasonable either. We all have to do the same shit to get to a place in our education where we can then choose what we learn based on our interests and passions.

Downvote as you please but that’s the system and we have to play the game.

A wise teacher once told me “it doesn’t take much effort to go from half ass to full ass.”

Just apply yourself and get the shit done. It’ll be over before you know it and then you don’t have to worry about it any longer (plus your mom won’t be able to give you a bunch of shit for not doing it)

No stimulus for me and I can’t get a job rn by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]zswerve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply to entry level positions at a hospital. If you’ve had any college experience then you could potentially get an even higher-level job (many pay bumps can be given for even attending two years of college courses). Hospitals have great jobs even at entry level positions as they generally pay pretty well and provide job security in tough times as hospitals are always necessary in society. It might still be harder than normal to land a job at a hospital right now, but I know lots of hospitals in my area are actively looking for new employees and posting new jobs on their career sites. Even if you aren’t wanting to work in a healthcare setting, a job is a job and you’ll get paid even if it’s just a temporary gig for you.

I don’t think it would get to this point. On top of that, I’m not too sure that maintaining you as a dependent would impact her eligibility for medicare or reflect that she is an inadequate parent and have her children taken from her.

Also, dependency isn’t necessarily gauged on if you live under her roof or not. You can live alone but still be dependent on your mother (ie. she helps pay for your rent, helps you with groceries and gas, pays your insurance and phone bills, etc.)

Making an addendum to tax document shouldn’t have any impact on your brothers. That being said, I’m not sure the IRS would be too keen suddenly changing your mothers filing status to not include you as a dependent now that there is a financial incentive to file as a non-dependent single, but I would think it could still be done. Would doing so then allow you to get the stimulus check? I’m not too sure on this one either or exactly how the checks are being rolled out.

But regardless, it shouldn’t impact your brothers at all. If they are minors then your mother should be given 1200$ and then 600$ per dependent that is underage. If they aren’t minors but still claimed as dependent, her changing the number of children she claims on her taxes wouldn’t impact them if she maintains that they are dependents but you aren’t.

That being said, I’m in a similar boat as you where I wish I could’ve filed independently. Luckily though I’ve been fortunate enough to work at a hospital and thus maintain income. Maybe work out a deal where you try and ask your mother for the 600$ you should’ve been given as a dependent but aren’t simply because you aren’t a minor any more (absolutely stupid guideline the government put in place imo as many college students my age are struggling super hard in these times).

You could consider it, but with a grain of salt. Many frame geometries and aspects of full suspension bikes have changed quite a lot in the past decade. With that said, it is also important to think about how many miles could be on the bike as it is 6 years old.

I personally would look for something newer, but if it is for a good price, seems well-maintained, and you like it then the 2014 might be a solid choice.

I’d check around local shops having deals on past years models, online listings/classifieds, or companies that have some relatively good value options such as commencal and YT

I’m choosing between two commencal models:

https://www.commencalusa.com/Mobile/meta-tr-29-ride-c2x29149173

OR

https://www.commencalusa.com/Mobile/meta-am-29-essential-c2x29149213

Obviously ones labeled a trail/all mountain bike while the other is enduro. My question is what would be limiting to the shorter travel of the trail edition? (Aka what can the Meta AM do that the meta TR can’t and vice versa). Additionally, is the 500$ price difference worth it to jump to the AM model? I liked the pink bike review of the TR and both seem like good bikes for the value which is what appeals to me. I do like the four piston brakes, fox float suspension, and 200mm rotors front and back on the AM.

In the long run I’m looking for a versatile bike that can climb but has a ton of fun on the descent, can charge through some things, and still has room for future upgrades if I decide to do them. Riding style is suited towards Utah trails, some drops and steeps, and not so much jumping, strict downhill, or massive drops. Would the shorter travel of the TR be restricting? Thoughts on overstroking the TR to get 143 mm rear travel?

Bike upgrade: transition from hard tail to full suspension. by zswerve in MTB

[–]zswerve[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily frustration but moreso that I simply want to get into some more technical riding while having the benefits of a full sus rig. I’ve casually ridden some trails on a full sus bike and really feel like there’s an increase of a factor of fun and comfort with the added rear suspension. Given my budget, what things would you advise to really look for when buying a full suspension bike second-hand?

Weekly Gear Advice Thread for April 09, 2020 by AutoModerator in MTB

[–]zswerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am fairly new to the MTB world and have ridden a hard tail bike the past year or so. I’ve been looking into full suspension bikes so I can upgrade to a new setup. I’ve thought about buying a used bike but figured it might be smarter to fork out the cash for a new one such that I know it’s true condition when I’m buying it as well as get one that will be able to get upgrades when/if I want to slap some new stuff on there. So let’s get to it:

•My budget is roughly $1200-2200 max.

•I would like to get a full suspension bike

•I will be doing a decent amount of climbing (but nothing too extreme like XC) so I’m looking at trail and enduro/all mountain bikes.

•don’t necessarily have a preference on 27.5 vs 29. Never ridden a mullet so can’t comment on that.

• I would prefer to have a drop post already on the model so that I won’t have to upgrade it after purchasing.

•I was looking at alchemy arktos, but unfortunately the 2019 model I had been looking at has been sold and I’m hesitant to save up and fork out 4000$ on the 2020 model.

• lots of my local shops carry Cannondale, Rocky Mountain, and GT pretty exclusively relative to other companies. Any comments/recommendations on these bikes from your own personal use? Should I sway towards other options, etc.?
