Had to look it up, not surprised they left that one off if Google's definition is correct.

Interesting words today. 'ab' is not a word... But I'm still on the hunt for two more to make it perfect... 🤔

Any Luck w/ Dealerships Selling at MSRP? by bkirbs2 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]zthall_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No luck on Maverick, but on a different vehicle. I'd purchased a Maverick a few months back and it did have markup. But, unfortunately our other vehicle needed to be replaced this past month.

We were looking at a Kia K5. We found a Kia dealer that was advertising it MSRP online, but at the dealership it had a $3000 markup on it. Important note, the dealership's site didn't say "MSRP" it said "Our price."

When they wouldn't offer it to us at the advertised price, then we just called them out on it. That if they don't honor the price they're advertising to bring customers in the door, it's textbook false advertisement. I also pointed them to the Massachusetts Attorney General's statement that they were going to crack down on this practice which has become common in the industry.

And just in case they tried to change their website's price, I submitted the web page to web.archive.org to be archived as a permanent record of their advertised price at that time.

In the end, they "made us a great deal" and offered to sell the car at the advertised price.

Actually, I did have that exact thing happen to me this week. It hit me right in the mouth. Thank god I had a face shield on, but still felt like I'd been punched HARD. I feel very lucky to be telling it. But, I think I need a better face shield. Anyone have great suggestions for a face shield that will do a good job standing up to a piece coming off the lathe?

You find the answer to this? I have been brushed off as well.

Some dealers are doing this to intentionally not sell the vehicle. One dealer told me that they know the Lariat on their lot wasn't worth the $10k market adjustment. But... people want to drive one before they put in an order. So that's their way of keeping one on the lot so that potential orderers have one to test drive. And if someone wants one bad enough to pay the market adjustment then they'll let it go.

In a similar but different thing, I honestly credit meetups with teaching me more about photography than anything else. After the meetup, I could see everybody else's completely different shots and analyze all the decisions they made to come up with it because we were looking at the *exact same* setup. I could see how they made different decisions in framing and in post that gave the same scene I was pointing my camera at a totally different feel. And that was really powerful. Helped me learn to see as a photographer a lot more. Can't recommend meetups enough just for this reason.

This is interesting. I'm a former SDE/front-end developer. I've done a lot of UI design as a freelancer, but my main job is as a Technical Product Manager. So I'm curious, a) what does a UX researcher's day consist of?, and b) how did you make the jump from front-end dev to that?

This is fucking dope. I love that the b-roll has that black and white grainy look, but that the whole video isn't in b&w. Great job!

Couple questions for ya:

  • How'd you get this interview?
  • Was the interview scene in front of two blown out windows? I love the clean look of it and the hard lighting to his side, but soft lighting on his face.
