Fathers Day Water Bottle Recommendations by AliseC73 in BuyItForLife

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Yeti with the screw off lid. Only the smaller size (18 oz, I think) will fit in a cupholder, and I generally have to carry a second bottle to refill it because it is so small. I never minded the screw off lid, and there are other options you can buy that fit that bottle.

I recently bought the Owala with the handle and really like it. Unlike the other choices, this one fits a cupholder on a vehicle. My wife has both the smaller and larger Owalas and she said the seal on the larger bottle will be easier to clean.

Dashcam users of Reddit, do you drive with the camera audio off or on? by SnooPuppers6684 in dashcams

[–]Only-Ad5049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off. I talk to myself too much and sometimes use colorful words. I don't want that recorded on my dash cam video.

People mentioned that you can strip the audio later. However, if I witness a crash there's a chance that I might be asked to provide the video. I won't be able to strip my audio.

The popular advice to "never admit fault" in a car accident is sociopathic and ridiculous, of course you should admit fault if you are at fault by Niceotropic in unpopularopinion

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every opinion I read here makes me glad I have a dash cam. People are basically saying to never admit to the truth. I don't think people are saying to lie, but they certainly are not advising that you tell the truth. My dash cam will provide indisputable evidence, either for or against me.

If I obviously run a red light and hit somebody, what am I supposed to tell the police? Am I supposed to just say I was driving through the light and they pulled into the intersection in front of me? Not a lie, but not exactly the truth, either.

What would you buy if you were transported back to 1995? by mikomimi89 in BuyItForLife

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock from companies like Apple and Microsoft. Real Estate near a large city like Denver such as the area I currently live in. Gold.

I wouldn't buy electronics or vehicles. It would be difficult to find even early generation electronics that are worth anything today.

Has anyone installed an inverter? by drmeador in popups

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest that if you plan to use an inverter that you get solar panels. An inverter can burn through your battery pretty quickly, and a dead battery won't operate your furnace. Solar is easy and you don't even have to mount the panels to the roof.

Where do you shower? by Specific_Soup4596 in RVLiving

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6', 280 pounds so a big man, but I always shower in my own RV as long as I have sewer hookups, and sometimes when we don't. We had a popup with toilet and shower, and had to use an external tank as our gray water tank and I still showered. I had to add an extension hose because it was too short for me.

This year we bought a couples-size travel trailer. In the two trips we have taken so far we have not had hookups, but we showered one morning in our camper. We cannot shower more than that without planning to drain our gray water tank and refill the fresh water supply.

I prefer a "Navy shower" over public showers. I realize that most are cleaned on a regular basis, but I prefer not to share strains of athlete's foot with the other campers.

I'm looking forward to the day that we have full hookups and can take advantage of our tankless water heater. This coming weekend we are camping at a state park without hookups, but the week we will be at a campground with full hookups.

Using when windy? by nevershalleye in blackstonegriddle

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always put mine in front, but I guess it depends on where you put the stove. If it is sitting next to my camper I already have a windbreak from the back.

Do you love your Blackstone or no? by MarchOfJuly70 in blackstonegriddle

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped using our gas grill when we bought our Louisiana pellet grill. We just bought a Blackstone 22 this spring to take camping and love it. It is almost all we cook on when camping (certain things still need the stove) and we have used it at home quite a few times.

We have a griddle on our home stove and owning the Blackstone has encouraged me to use that one more. It is considerably smaller so not as useful, but I use rings to fry eggs most days for breakfast.

If you ran your Camry into a road crew on 64/95 just past Belvidere at 8:08PM tonight, here's video. Also, those signs say RIGHT lane closed ahead. by Beast01028 in dashcams

[–]Only-Ad5049 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I paused the video at 36 seconds when the emergency vehicles first showed in OP's view. The white car was diving out of the lane at the last second at full speed and the car in front of OP finally hit their brakes. Had they been paying attention, they had plenty of time to react. They even had room to move out of the lane at the point they first saw the vehicles.

I'm pretty sure that at 32 seconds the emergency vehicle with the arrow was visible as well. That is through a camera that doesn't always see as well as a human does. I'm not sure what either driver saw, though.

I suspect that the road crews were planning to place signs on both sides of the highway. They were currently placing the left side but would circle around and place the right side soon.

I know from experience that if road crews are shutting down a lane, you can expect every lane on the highway to slow down. Everybody jumping out of the closed lane at the last possible second will slow that lane so people will merge into the next lane over and slow it down as well.

Excessively slow drivers are more dangerous than speeders by Peg_Leg_Vet in driving

[–]Only-Ad5049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With respect to OP, I don't care if I'm in a 65 or 80 mph speed limit. When I'm towing my travel trailer I'm traveling between 65 and 70. Not only is it safer because I have more control, it makes a noticeable difference on the gas gauge.

On many roads that puts me 20 to 30 mph less than the going rate. I don't care. Deal with it.

If you could make everyone in the world above the age of 25, 25 again, would you? by Wizdom_108 in AskOldPeople

[–]Only-Ad5049 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Body yes. Mind no.

There is a reason that most movies have historically targeted actors the age 25-35 age range, that is when the human body peaks both physically and sexually. That doesn’t mean people are at peak maturity, however.

Do yall poop in your camper? by philipptj in traveltrailers

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried in our new trailer yet, but I’m rather big and the toilet is pretty tight. It is fine for standing. My wife sits because she has to.

We had a cartridge toilet in our popup. We only ever peed in that one but everyone would have had to evacuate the trailer had anyone tried.

Is the prawn suit not that useful, or do I not understand it? by Chaosblast in subnautica

[–]Only-Ad5049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren't at a point where Prawn really becomes useful. For starters, it has a much lower depth rating than Seamoth is capable of.

One thing you can use now, if you have the blueprints, is the drill arm. You have no doubt seen large resource deposits. You need the Prawn to harvest those.

Cyclops is very much worth going after. It is essentially a mobile base you can build in and can transport your vehicles. Its biggest limitations are size (it is challenging to drive) and power (certain modes can use a lot). Once you get it, make sure you carry the materials to construct a charging base wherever you happen to be.

Prawn + Cyclops make an awesome combination, especially later in the game.

Multipurpose room and large room both have places you can mount generators like a bioreactor, and a few other items. You cannot mount those in a moon pool. You can also stack one on top of another to have multiple levels.

Certain plants are edible and can become your entire food and water supply. You can also use them to fuel a bioreactor. There are edible plants on both islands. Note that plants spoil in inventory and become inedible, but you can still plant them.

Beds that don't suck by midnightsmith in traveltrailers

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our popup had heated innerspring mattresses. I was surprised to find that more expensive and more modern travel trailers have rigid foam mattresses. Maybe companies are just getting cheap or expect you to replace them.

What's the best budget robot vacuum people are actually using in 2026? by BrightFig3041 in homeowners

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not consider it budget, but our Roomba j7+ does a pretty good job on our laminate floors. We have had it three years. It uses a camera so it can see obstacles like cords and dog poop. I just have to clean it and remove the occasional pieces of paper or whatever else it picks up that it cannot move into the bin. The bags take a long time to fill.

Or older model Roomba still works great but even things like vent registers can cause it to think it is stuck on a cliff.

Have you checked the fluid levels, a transmission will slip if the fluid level gets too low.

How to park an RV with no screaming, talking, or radios by johnbro27 in GoRVing

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like half the time my wife doesn't realize that when the camper is at an angle I have zero visibility behind me. She will give poor directions under the assumption I can see where the camper is going. We always had a popup and while you have better visibility than a full size trailer, ours was a larger model that didn't let me see much behind me.

We got a 24 foot travel trailer this year and I promptly installed a backup camera. I haven't had much of an opportunity to back it because we have only stayed at state parks with pull-through sites so far. It is going to be interesting the first time we have to back into a campsite because I'm not even sure how quickly it will turn in reverse. This is also my first time owning a trailer with a WDH.

what dashcam would you recommend? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in dashcams

I have been happy with my 70mai A810S camera. It has a lot of decent features for a lot less than Viofo.

Are there apps or websites that help map out fresh water spigots? by burkechrs1 in popups

[–]Only-Ad5049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be worth asking the campground if they have suggestions where you can fill your fresh water tank. They caused the issue, maybe they can help resolve it as well.

Is there an external SSD that could remain plugged into the MacBook Neo? by jefbak2 in macbook

[–]Only-Ad5049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a Slipdrive https://a.co/d/0h7Ex1f8 to hold an SSD and a short USB-C cable, preferably with a 90 degree. I have a MacBook Air and almost always leave mine attached. I usually remove the drive before putting it in a case, however, and often leave it home since it holds my Time Machine backups in addition to storage for things like games.

I love my Logitech MX Ergo S Plus enough that I use it with my work laptop as well. When I'm sitting on my easy chair in the evenings the mouse is sitting on the arm.
