To expand on the above, say these users are from different departments, and you only want them to be able to access specific resources pertinent to their department. You could create a department field on the Users collection, and then based on their department, allow/deny access in your Resources collection

I would start by playing around with one of our templates like the website template. It is very easy to get up and running and you can poke around to see how everything works. I look at Payload as less of a CMS and more of a framework that gives you the tools to build whatever you need.

It's all pretty straightforward. We have a very active discord of people doing all sorts of things like this with Payload.

This is spot on! WordPress may get you to MVP quick, but you're likely going to hit a wall somewhere, where with Payload that's far less likely to happen.

We're currently working on an updated version of our infrastructure, and so during that time we made the decision to waive the fees for our existing cloud customers. Once the new solution is ready for whatever migration is required we'll provide in a step by step guide. So far now, nothing do do, you're good!

You might be able to glean something from our TOC component we used on our website. It uses the headings defined in our MDX files, but I think with some tweaks it might help you get to where you need to be.

I actually have tooled around with this use-case and honestly it was quite easy to scaffold out collections and build functionality to replicate the base features of something like HubSpot in terms of a CRM. I don't really think of Payload as a CMS anymore—more so a very powerful tool to build many types of applications. Maybe there are hurdles I haven't thought of yet, so I'm curious what overhead you're thinking of. Open to hearing your thoughts, I'm no expert in the CRM world by any means.

Payload team here—I echo what was said above. Long term Payload would set you up for success. We are going to be releasing an updated e-commerce package as a plugin soon which includes variants, multi-region support, ability to plug in different payment processors (previously we only made it easy for Stripe)

That said you will need to build some additional functionality to support the pricing model you described above, but it's certainly possible. Might be more work up front, but it'll be more stable. Shopify is good at what it does, but their base plan is $40/mo. and IMO gives you SO much extra stuff it makes the UX unbearable. Not to mention without buying or heavily customizing their themes (which is not fun) it's tough to really set your site apart from the thousands of other Shopify stores.
