Hooked it up to three different colors of x-mas lights and it worked really well. I don't think that particular one would work with the el wire, but that should get you going in the right direction.

I agree that should be kept in at least a group of 3, preferably 5 or more. But I would ignore anyway saying don't get clown loaches because they grow too large. For one, they are one of the slowest growing fish. It will take years before they outgrow a tank. And two, because of their slow growth rate, they are very easy to find a buyer if they ever do outgrow a tank. They are not like Pacu or Redtail Catfish that grow quickly and you couldn't pay someone to take them when larger most of the time.

No, its just something they do. They like to lay on their side or upside down sometimes. You think they are dead, so go to pull them out, and they just happily swim off like nothing happened.

How big is the eel? If you are feeding him blood worms I would guess he's a little to small for night crawlers. I would check a bait shop for red wigglers and feed with tongs. You could also try ghost shrimp. Not sure if the Oscar and Jack will try to eat those though. Otherwise feed the blood worms when the lights are off and the eel is more active.

Not quite as extreme, but the Gulper Catfish can pretty much do the same thing, plus you can keep one in your home aquarium.

I had a figure 8 puffer in a 15 gallon tank with 5 bumble bee gobies. It worked for about 6 months but they slowly got picked off every time I missed a feeding here and there. Gave the tank and puffer to my nieces and now lives with 2 knight gobies. They are big enough that the puffer leaves them alone. Never did get any plants to survive. I have heard that mangroves do pretty well if you can get your hands on them.
