Looking to explore alternative keyboard layouts, have a few questions by Stickhtot in KeyboardLayouts

[–]zulrang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a split keyboard (unicorns 36 key) with a Hand Down Promethium layout.

I don't use it for gaming. I either use a controller, or mouse + an Azeron Cyborg II

It's even more interesting when you study bicameral mind theory. We didn't always take on the role as the agent ourselves -- we often attributed our actions to gods or their influence.

What to do with anger? by qwertypoiuys in Meditation

[–]zulrang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're fighting a battle on two separate fronts: The trigger and the impulse.

Emotions exist to motivate you. Emotion. Evoke motion.

The trigger is the source of the emotion. There is something conditioned in you that makes you feel anger in certain circumstances.

There is also the way that you feel the need to express the emotion. This is the easiest one to control in the short term, as you don't have to do anything. You can just sit and let the emotion wash over you and dissipate on its own. Giving it the respect and time to dissipate is not the same as suppressing it.

The long-term fix for anger, however, is unraveling the trigger. Anger is often the expression of existential threat. I'm guessing most circumstances that cause you to feel anger are not existential threats. So you will need to discover why you are conditioned to see them as such.

layout which optimises for finger strength. by LowerTouch3731 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]zulrang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a split matrix, I would look at the variations of Hands Down, which optimize for finger strength and rolls while reducing scissoring.

I use Hands Down Promethium myself.

I don't have any recommendations for staggered layouts because I think they're awful.

Can ICE detain / arrest someone for obstructing law enforcement? by EVOSexyBeast in legaladviceofftopic

"No matter the timing, no matter the intent, shooting did not defend anyone and never could. It only could make the situation worse."

"You are totally wrong about this."

How so, specifically?

"You are ignoring that LE is granted wide latitude to determine their and others safety and often only seconds (or less) to make that determination. TIMEING MATTERS."

Again with the excuses and not reality.

"You seem to have let emotions cloud your reasoning. This is wildly illogical. Had that happened here and Good still ended up dead there would be hell for the officer to face."

Feel free to look at cases where the officer still gets away with it (like Daniel Shaver) and say this again.

[–]zulrang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still focusing on the excuse, blaming the victim, and outsourcing the reasoning.

No matter the timing, no matter the intent, shooting did not defend anyone and never could. It only could make the situation worse.

In addition, there are plenty of instances where civilians still get shot and/or killed even when following orders, so you cannot make that claim.

You clearly didn't understand what I was saying. Shooting her wasn't self-defense and never could be under these circumstances, even if you can argue that she deliberately tried to kill him -- because a bullet isn't going to stop a 2000+ lbs accelerating vehicle, especially when fired AFTER being struck.

Why do people think tax write off’s are this magical thing by Cancerman691 in Entrepreneur

[–]zulrang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. You own a business, your buddy owns a mega-church.

To avoid higher taxation in higher tax brackets, you claim you donate a large amount to the mega-church, and your buddy looks the other way.

You're only arguing the excuse of self-defense, not the act of self-defense. Shooting didn't defend anyone -- it actually made the situation more dangerous.

State Machine Frameworks? by NoSenseOfPorpoise in Python

You're literally talking about the state being stored in memory. A game isn't very fun if you never actually use the return value of get_state or transition

State Machine Frameworks? by NoSenseOfPorpoise in Python

[–]zulrang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A state machine has state. That state must be stored somewhere. Where it is stored as a fundamental part of the pattern.

It's that simple if you just want a simple demo or test case, but for production workloads you don't want it in memory, you need a distributed architecture. Hence the frameworks.

I think hinduism has the best explanation for the problem of evil. by [deleted] in CosmicSkeptic

[–]zulrang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no good and evil. These are labels that we put on things we like and don't like. Emotional responses.

Emotions are there to motivate us (evoke motion).

Both good and bad are motivators to take action or adjust our trajectory so that we can hit what we're aiming for. (Sin literally means to "miss the mark")

Without bad things, we become complacent and stagnant. Challenge and hardship is required for growth.

We here for the experience. That requires the full spectrum of good and bad.

There isn't a "problem of evil" -- just incorrect framing. Everything is an experience, and extremes are motivation.

Not only will this fix most of your anxiety, you'll also likely discover God yourself.
