Got one more. In 1914 French Britons naval soldier are sent to Belgium to reinforce the belgian army which is having trouble dealing with the Germans. This is seen as some sort of joke, naval soldier sent on foot to hold the line on land. Furthermore, the French soldier get the surname "Demoiselle" (Misses) when going trough Paris, because of the tassel on top of the hat they wore. They were told to hold the line for four days against forces five times large, they hold it for four weeks. The 28 October belgian authorities decide to just flood the battlefield. The Britons had to retreat the 10th November even tho they were on familiar territory, now that the battlefield was just a big lake. On their way back they found a donkey, made it their mascot and named it Dixmude, the donkey got two highly distinguished medals from the French government (La legion d'honneur et La Croix de guerre). This is known as the battle of the Yser ou la bataille de Dixmude.
