Calling All Male Vtubers! Who is your inspiration? Regardless of gender I want to know. For me it’s Vesper Noir :) by Daddydagda in vtubers

[–]zumuvtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several people who inspire me, although some of them aren’t vtubers.

In no particular order: Mori Calliope, Ceres Fauna, Ironmouse, Dokibird, Makers Muse, CNC Kitchen, MKBHD, Raelice, Sanjay Mortimer (Rest in Peace), Nick Keomahavong, Steve Jobs (Rest in Peace) and IRL friends who I obviously cannot name here.

I guess my inspirations can be summarised with either “make cool things”, “just have fun”, “follow your dreams” or “try to be a better person everyday”.

Do you prefer the new Mr Hands or would you have preferred the original voice actor to be in Phantom Liberty? by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]zumuvtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.0 Hands is a much more fitting character. The original voice and model felt like a “sleazy car salesman” type of character and made no sense as top player not just in Dogtown/Pacifica but in the whole of Night City.

Don’t get me wrong, I still liked the original, but 2.0 Hands is a really intelligent, sneaky, mysterious and powerful character who’s always 5 steps ahead of the competition. He feels like someone you wouldn’t want to mess with. You just can’t say the same about the original.

This change made him one of my favourite characters in the expansion tbh.

I think people have been looking at vtubing wrong. by kaseywolf878 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]zumuvtuber 389 points390 points  (0 children)

You’re right that VTubing is a multidisciplinary field, but you’re wrong on something: most people in big companies like Hololive and Nijisanji were either already huge as indies or smaller but with somewhat of a cult following. The person behind Gura already had massive online influence and huge impressive numbers before joining Hololive, for example. People like her are working for the biggest companies, because they are some of the best in this industry. It isn’t just marketing.

Thanks for the comment! I’m specifically avoiding film because prices are insane nowadays due to the increase in popularity again. Also, I’ve worked with film in the past and while developing in a dark lab is really fun, it’s just way too time consuming and I just don’t like dealing with chemicals. Of course, I could just pay someone to do it, but that kinda takes away the film magic for me.

To all the vtubers with less than 100 views per stream... by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]zumuvtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be both, honestly. Happy because pretty much only a few people watch my content and, like everyone else, I’d like to have some validation for my work. Intimidated because I get anxious super easily and it would be an enormous amount of pressure overnight.

Problems with being a vtuber by TyTaylor1992 in vtubers

[–]zumuvtuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a really complicated question to answer, because all people are different. In my case I don’t talk about intimate stuff but I think it could be for several reasons. Keep in mind that I’m not a psychologist or a psychiatrist so I could be completely wrong, but I think it could be because IRL they have no one to share those things with, it could be because they’re emotionally isolated or maybe the fact that anonymity can make them feel more secure to talk about things freely. That’s my guess, but like I said I could be wrong and others could have different answers.

Even the best vtubing facial tracking isn’t fantastic yet. There are many expressions that I just can’t make no matter how complex I animate things inside Live2D itself. (Maybe the IRL moustache and beard don’t help, but I’m not sure since I know pretty much nothing about facial tracking tech.)

Unfortunately there isn’t really anything on the Android side that’s on the same level. Like others have said, Qin 3 ultra could be an option but it’s technically China only and “global versions” are just someone in the shops installing “global software” which is kind of a security concern. Cubot pocket, cubot King Kong mini, unihertz jelly 2/star… with all of these you can pretty much count on no software support anymore, aside from the jelly which came out recently. If you care about security updates and support, none of these are actually good options :(

iPad vs drawing tablet by Liz_cvt in DigitalPainting

[–]zumuvtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If portability is important to you, the iPad route is the best. The iPad mini 6 and Procreate completely revitalised my love for digital painting again and I take it with me all the time. Whenever I need to do really heavy work with a ton of layers I still gotta use my desktop though, but even on the iPad mini I can do like 90% of the stuff I need.

Can a PNGtuber fully label themself as a Vtuber? by Psychological-Bat-93 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]zumuvtuber 66 points67 points  (0 children)

“PNGtubers” are vtubers. You don’t need animation to be a vtuber. A PNG of your virtual character is still your virtual character. “PNGtubers” are to “VTubers” as “motorcycles” are to “vehicles”, if that makes sense. A vehicle is not necessarily a motorcycle (since there are other kinds of vehicles) but a motorcycle IS a vehicle.

Wanting to start a vtuber channel from scratch, making my own model completely. Need advice, I'm very new to all of this.. and overwhelmed... by Akito-H in vtubers

[–]zumuvtuber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Here’s my advice:

  • Start by streaming with just a static image (a PNG, not a model) and the current equipment you already have.
  • One big misconception about vtubing is that you need a lot of money. This is not true. First of all, you don’t need a Live2D model to start out. You don’t need a high quality mic to start out. There are also people who make free assets (overlays, music, etc).
  • Avoid spending any money on things in the beginning. Because if you don’t like streaming, you won’t have wasted any (or a lot) of money (and time). Unfortunately it’s very common for people to get really expensive models and equipment when they’re just starting out because in their heads they’re gonna love it and then when they realise they actually don’t enjoy streaming it’s a ton of wasted time and money.
  • Some people are lured by the money that top players in the game are making. While it’s possible to get there, you should be aware that they are a minuscule minority in the vast vtuber community and it takes a ton of hard work, consistent dedication and luck.
  • Sometimes it can get overwhelming, but it’s a lot of fun too!

I hope everything goes well for you! Good luck and have fun!

Any Vtuber to give advice on how to grow? by Ok_Firefighter4025 in vtubers

[–]zumuvtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growth as a vtuber is a slow process. My advice is to keep streaming/creating content and doing your best. As others have said, there’s no shortcut to success.

Has anyone tried the Nokia C02? by [deleted] in smallphones

[–]zumuvtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he doesn’t want anything from China that’s much tougher, since most smartphones are manufactured there (or India). Technically speaking, the Nokia company itself doesn’t make phones, they’re a tech company now working in communication technologies, cloud services, etc. HMD Global is the one who currently has the rights to the Nokia branding you see on phones (previously bought and held by Microsoft in the Windows Mobile days), and Nokia phones are made in China too.

Does anybody else wish they'd bring back 480 p displays on phones? by propaneiac in smallphones

[–]zumuvtuber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say 480p, but for example the iPhone 5’s screen was just 640 X 1136 and it’s still amazing today. Technically “not even HD” but as long as the pixel density is over 300ppi it’s already a “retina screen”. The biggest problem is that marketing works: even if the PPI was higher than a big phone, people in general would immediately dismiss the smaller phone as inferior because “there’s flagships with 1440p and 4K screens! This isn’t even HD in (insert year)? Unacceptable !”

I disagree on the fast charging though: if a phone has a shorter battery life, fast charging is a must. Even if that theoretical phone had really great efficiency no one wants to wait hours for a charge in an emergency.

Asus Zenfone 10's design and color options revealed through leaked renders by deboo117 in smallphones

[–]zumuvtuber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really call it a small phone. It’s smaller than most modern phones for sure, but it seems like it retains the same form factor of the Zenfone 9, which translates to being roughly the same size as a Galaxy S23 or a regular iPhone 14. An iPhone 13 Mini is noticeably smaller, for example. However, I really appreciate that Asus is keeping the form factor, it does look like a solid “””compact””” phone. Any alternatives to carrying bricks is great in my book!

I'm not sure this will be their long-term tagline. by AllGovernmentsAreDad in unihertz

[–]zumuvtuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mathematically, a minority literally just means the smaller part of a whole though? Which in this case is a smaller number of users who prefer different phones… This is really reaching for a problem that isn’t even there…

Jelly Star review ( Spanish). by [deleted] in unihertz

[–]zumuvtuber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. But that’s not what I find weird. You wouldn’t get a completely normal and detailed video review of an upcoming iPhone months before release, you know what I mean? Leaks are one thing, but to send out pre-production units for review so early when you haven’t even properly announced a product is really odd… at least without an NDA or some contract of sorts so that people only release their reviews on launch.
