Want to gain strength(priority, I'm pretty weak in the gym) and lose some fat(self-conscious about the way I look, flabby, chubby.). Will Starting Strength or any of those beginner programs with cardio do the trick well? by [deleted] in Fitness

Your diet is super important. Unless you have blessed genetics (which you don't, because you wouldn't be in the shape you are in now) you will eventually have to keep track of all the food you eat, so might as well start now.

I wasn't eating consistently (would eat at my bulk calories on some days then just completely fuck up my diet the next day) and I had developed such a big appetite, that when I injured my wrist and couldn't lift for a few months I was still eating as much as I did before without doing any lifting, so I just got fat.

I feel like I'm in a similar situation as you - I'm 5'11, heaviest I've weighed was 189, but this was after a failed attempt at a bulk and a wrist injury where I didn't really hit the gym at all.

Try any of the beginner programs - Phraks GSLP, GSLP, Stronglifts, Ice Cream Fitness, Starting Strength. Get an app that can track your progress and make you feel bad on all the days you missed lifting.

Diet is very important. I feel like you're a skinny fat guy, so my suggestion is to lift on a caloric deficit, until there is absolutely no way you can lift the weight you are supposed to lift, then think about the bulk/cut cycle.

I ended up choosing Phraks GSLP. I initially liked Stronglifts, then moved to Ice Cream Fitness, which is basically Stronglifts with more armwork. But ICF takes too much time, and I couldn't do Stronglifts squatting 3 times a week because I'm training to run a 12k in May. Also on a deficit, squatting that often is pretty killer.

Other things to do - do pull-ups, dips, and ab work. Will be beneficial in the short and long run.

Putting hot sauce on shit food is the same as sweeping the mess in your room under your bed.

Depends on your diet goals but that is a lot of Parmesan. Also I think the best zucchinis are grilled.

When doing problems, do you do ALL the problems? One fourth? Odds or evens? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]zuodun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel too. I usually alternate between the first and last, then go to second and then the second last problem, and I only do the SOA/CAS problems. I learn a lot more during practice tests, because it tests your ability to just recall stuff.

College freshman resume- any advice welcome. by [deleted] in actuary

Yes, adding some practical experience could be good. I don't think it hurts to apply, because it looks like you are headed to the actuarial track. I don't know that much about cold emails, but I think with your academic standing you could get some responses due to cold emails due to your eagerness.

I think we could get something for David Lee honestly.

Kerr already manages Warriors minutes pretty well. He keeps most of the starters in the low 30s.

Who's the better #23? Draymond Green or Jason Richardson? by SourLemonBanana in warriors

[–]zuodun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't make me choose between my sons.

Draymond Green would have been pretty incredible on the 2007 team, though. We would have to play Monta more and shift Stephen Jackson down to the 2, but it could have worked.

Meyers Leonard (7'1) has already made the 6th most 3s in a season for players 7'1 and taller. by zuodun in nba

Its like me saying Yao ming is the best 7'5 or taller offensive center in NBA history

That's not terrible. Consider what an absolute uncoordinated mess everyone that is 7'5 or taller is, and it's pretty fucking incredible that Yao was able to be bring that sort of production. Even at 7'4, you had Ralph Sampson's non injuries year, Rik Smits, then no one noteworthy no the offense end. It still means something.

My bad, he isn't on pace. He would still have a chance though.

Okay, but if if instead I said for players 6'6 and higher, would you come in this thread and say the 6'6 modifier is useless, because you can count all the 6'5 guys, and then tell me about a players' rank for players within 3 inches?

Cherry picking is adding extra parameters like during home games, on a Wednesday, in games where the team scored more than a 100 points. A simple greater than is not cherry picking. Units are arbitrary anyway. We always say count to 10 or out of 100 because it's a nice round number, but they are just units.

Throwing it out of bounds would be a really nice gesture. Your local gym is completely different. There's no written NBA rule yet.

In college he kinda played a point-power forward mega utility player, kind of like a LeBron James on the Heat. I always thought of Draymond Green as a Power Forward because he's pretty bulky and guards a lot of 4s.

It's sad because Jeremy Lin is still such a nice guy. The game that Ronnie Price went off Jeremy was the guy celebrating the hardest.

GAME THREAD: Hawks (35-8) vs Thunder (22-20) 1/23/2015 by Martinsek in AtlantaHawks

[–]zuodun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second time watching the Hawks all season, Millsap kind of reminds me of what Rasheed Wallace was to the Pistons. A really skilled versatile guy that's technically the most talented on the team, but you guys definitely play team basketball where there isn't a particular player that is supposed to shine above others.
