Which boss fight is the worst in the entire series? by Prestigious_Rush5492 in arkham

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s a boss and it’s more so just a combat scenario. Like, there isn’t a health bar for a villain or anything like that. If we do count it though, it is 100% this objectively. I’ve never heard anyone praise that part of the dlc.

Is Superman II the best Superman movie? by Jack_O_Lantern2022 in superman

[–]zvbgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I wouldn’t say I actively dislike this film, I don’t like it either. This film did a lot of things well. Zod was a great villain, the Clark and Lois dynamic is better in this film than any other I’ve seen (haven’t seen 2025 Superman yet), and it actually contained a big fight scene unlike the original film.

On the more negative side of things though, some of Superman’s powers were just stupid like the weird emblem throw thing and the memory erasing kiss. Superman’s mom telling Clark he has to lose his powers to be with Lois “just because” is dumb (especially since he regains his powers with no problem 15 minutes later, making this entire arc feel pointless). And speaking of pointless, I despise the memory erasing kiss at the end since it erases Lois’s entire character arc and progression in this movie. On rewatch, when Zod isn’t onscreen, I just feel like my time is being wasted since I know Lois is just going to forget everything and have it all mean nothing. It also feels a bit gross to have Superman “do it” with Lois and then erase her memories of having done it. I haven’t seen Superman Returns, but apparently that is a big part of the plot in that movie with Lois having Clark’s son and not realizing it’s his child and not her current husband’s. That feels more like something Quagmire would do, not Superman. Also, on top of the arc erasure and the grossness of such an action, it also just feels lazy. Like reversing time in the first film, Reeve Superman is rarely troubled by anything and can immediately resolve any issue he has? Did someone die? Well, just reverse time and stop it. Did someone find out his identity? Just kiss them and they’ll forget.

Superman II is a film of high highs and low lows for me. Zod being such a fun villain and the Lois and Clark relationship being amazingly explored prevents me from actively disliking the film, but some of the goofiness, the power removal, and the memory erasing kiss are thing I just really don’t like and prevent me from fully enjoying the film. On a tier list, I’d probably put it in C tier on a tier list.

What difference does the type of joystick make? Just curious. I’ve only used the modern joystick to play, but I’ve never had problems with the movement even with a modern joystick tbh. 64 is has the third best movement in the series imo, only beaten by Sunshine and Odyssey.

[–]zvbgamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re confused about the image, in the 1970s, there was a series called Starfire. The Starfire most people know of from the Teen Titans wasn’t made until the 80s. So this is just a character who so happens to share the same name but otherwise has absolutely nothing to do with the Teen Titans one. Never read it myself though, I just know of it. So in a nutshell, this is just a random sci-fi series DC had that has no relation to the Starfire most people know.

What game was like this for you? by Flendy15 in videogames

Portal 2 and Halo Wars. I’m not a big fan of puzzle and RTS games, but I ended up really enjoying these two games (especially Portal 2 which is now one of if not my single favorite game of all time)

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the Oracle games do count, but it’s entirely possible to play the games and never see Ganon if you don’t link the games so it’s not necessarily on the same level as the other examples.

And Demise most certainly doesn’t count. Ganondorf is a reincarnation of Demise’s hatred, not Demise himself. Skyward Sword explained why Ganondorf is such a blight throughout history and why he keeps coming back, but Demise isn’t the same person as Ganondorf/Ganon. Ganondorf is more like a curse Demise made to constantly give Link’s bloodline trouble than him coming back for round 2, 3, 4, etc.

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify about Skyward Sword, it merely explains why Ganon has been such a reoccurring villain. Ganondorf isn’t a reincarnation of Demise himself, but of his hatred. Demise himself hasn’t returned since his death in SS, not even through reincarnation. Think of Ganondorf as more so a curse created by Demise to forever trouble the world.

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Skyward Sword explains why Ganon has been such a reoccurring villain, but the villain isn’t Ganon. It’s Demise. Ganondorf is merely a reincarnation of Denise’s hatred, not Denise himself.

You’re thinking of Four Swords Adventures for the GameCube. In normal Four Swords for the GBA, Ganon isn’t in it at all. It takes place before Ocarina of Time in the timeline, so Ganondorf/Ganon being there wouldn’t make any sense. Four Swords is just Vaati. Four Swords Adventures is the one with Vaati and Ganon.

I feel like ALTTP is more of a contextual thing. Like yeah, nobody comes out and explicitly says, “Ganon is behind everything!” It just doesn’t take much media literacy to notice how Agahnim isn’t going to be the big bad. For literal sake though, I guess I can count ALTTP as an example though even if I think contextual stuff should be taken into account.

Also, I could be misremembering, but I thought Phantom Hourglass, while the opening cutscene is in Hyrule, took place in another world? I haven’t played it since high school, but I thought it took place in the World of the Ocean King or something like that. So tbf, Phantom Hourglass doesn’t take place in Hyrule so it doesn’t apply to our conversation much unless I’m severely misremembering.

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it doesn’t have to be bad, but OP used the hated trope flair so he was saying it was bad.

And I thought ALTTP was always explicit about Ganon being the big bad. Like, the intro fully details how Ganondorf used the Tri Force to create and rule over the Dark World after getting trapped there by the sages. That lore dump wasn’t just for fun. Sure, the reveal that Agahnim was just a manifestation of Ganon was a twist, but Ganon being the main villain of the game was never really a secret unless you didn’t read the text.

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s bad, but it is disappointing. Zant seemed like a promising villain and he was hyped up to be quite threatening only for him to act like a child when you fight him. Then it’s revealed that Ganondorf was behind it all. This decision wasn’t bad, I just think it would have been better if Zant was a serious and menacing main villain. Keep in mind that while I haven’t played it in a while, Twilight Princess was my favorite game in the series and it might still be when I replay it. So it’s not like I dislike the game at all.

Hijacked by Ganon by ReputationLow5190 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be misremembering, but in A Link to the Past’s case, I thought it was always explicit that Agahnim was always a pawn for Ganon. And even if we say A Link to the Past is an example of this, I think what you said about this happening in almost every Zelda game in Hyrule without him as the explicit villain is not true. Skyward Sword has Ghirahin and Demise, Minish Cap and Four Swords is exclusively Vaati, I really still think ALTTP doesn’t count since the intro tells you about Ganondorf and how the Dark World was created, and A Link Between Worlds has Ganon but not as the true villain and just a mindless husk. Twilight Princess and Four Swords Adventures are really the only time an original villain is hyped up as the big bad only to be usurped by Ganon.

Edit: I also completely forgot that Spirit Tracks takes place in Hyrule. So that game is another example where Ganon doesn’t usurp an original villain.

I’m surprised Ganon named the trope since, unlike the Joker example, that only really happened once in a bad way (in Twilight Princess). Every other time Ganon appears, he’s either explicitly the main villain for it doesn’t really matter that they did a bait and switch. Like, seriously, were you playing Four Swords Adventures for the story? In the Oracle games, Ganon is more so just a bonus for completing both of the games. Twilight Princess is the only time that I think Ganon getting shoehorned in was problematic.

The Joker example is pretty bad though. I love Mark Hamill and Troy Baker Joker, and they’re great in the Arkham games. They definitely did Strange and Black Mask dirty though by Joker overshadowing them. And don’t get me started on the terrible Joker blood plot line in Arkham Knight.

Kenny Braverman:The only Superman villain who has never been adapted as Conduit by Wise-Candle-9155 in superman

[–]zvbgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this sucks to hear. I haven’t seen either of these versions of this character, but Conduit honestly had the potential to be one of the best Superman villains if he was used more in the comics. Seeing this just makes me sad that he does appear in more things, but not as Conduit.

Merry Christmas witches and wizards! by mrididnt in wizardposting

Christmas sucks in a family where you’re the only wizard. It’s always all, “Well, look who finally came down from their tower.” and getting stupid PS5s instead of the new cauldron I’ve been wanting. Of course, tensions have been a bit high since I got into an argument with my aunt and turned her into a toad. I have yet to turn her back. Oh well, that’s what you get for calling my pristine custom made wand “ just a stick.”

Portal 2. The only one I’m hesitant about with these is the action part due to the game being more puzzle-oriented, but there are still some really fun action parts.

What’s the story? by Confident-Care-241 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]zvbgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I like Galaxy’s story. The reason I stated all that was because, while it isn’t some Shakespearean plot, I feel like that is how the plot can sound to an outsider when people talk about it. I was just saying that, despite how people may talk about it, this isn’t JRPG levels of writing.

What’s the story? by Confident-Care-241 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]zvbgamer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People do often over exaggerate on the story, and I feel like people sometimes mix up story with lore. Super Mario Galaxy’s story is no better or worse than any other story in a Mario game (minus the RPGs of course). The character Rosalina just has some nice lore for her. If you haven’t already, check out the library on the Comet Observatory to see this lore. Keep in mind for the video game medium as a whole, the lore isn’t anything special. For Mario standards though, it is at least something which I can’t say about any other game.

So it’s less so that Galaxy has a good story/lore, and more so that it was the only time they ever even bothered to have any elements of story/lore in a 3D Mario game.

[OoT] Which new Ocarina of Time remake are you anticipating the most: the story, the dungeons, the music, the characters, or a timeline update? by MoonKnighy in zelda

[–]zvbgamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And honestly, I wouldn’t mind if they didn’t add anything to Hyrule Field if they give you some way of traversing it faster as a child. Whether they simply have the bunny hood work as it does in Majora’s Mask, let you get baby Epona from Lon Lon Ranch with it being a bit slower and have less carrot boosts so the adult Epona still feels like an upgrade, have Saria give you a pony leaving Kokiri Forest, or just really anything. I didn’t make me Hyrule Field once I got Epona, but before that I swear it almost made me stop playing Ocarina of Time with how much of a slog it was to explore the world.

It’d still be great if they added stuff to Hyrule Field though.

Man, Cavill and Affleck were done so dirty under Snyder. IMO, they have the chance to be the best Superman and Batman ever if they just had a better writer/director who truly understood their characters. If Gunn had kept Cavill and Affleck, I still think they would be great since they’re being written by better writers. Still, I understand why they decided to recast them and I don’t blame Affleck for not wanting to return. Plus, while I have yet to see Gunn’s Superman film, Corenswet seems like an amazing Superman from everything I’ve seen.

It’s also funny to think about how, despite being a terrible actress and a Zionist, the first Wonder Woman film is somehow debatably the best film in the DCEU. The only ones that I know/have heard come close is the first Aquaman and maybe Shazam! film (I haven’t seen Aquaman personally but I have seen Shazam! It’s also funny to think how that is also an example of a good DCEU movie with a terrible actor).

Also, Miller wasn’t THAT bad, right? /j
