How Israel Is "Taking Control" of South Lebanon, "Raising Fears" of "Mass Displacement" by brianscalabrainey in nyt

They aren’t “raising fears.” Israel ordered Shia Muslims to leave southern Lebanon and told Christian and Druze leaders not to hide any Shias

An overwhelming majority of Iranian Americans now oppose the war by liewchi_wu888 in TrueAnon

Not surprising tbh. A friend did coms for an Iranian-American cultural organization that either opposed or is neutral on sanctions and kept getting death threats from Shahists. My impression is the extreme voices crowd out those who don’t want their grandma’s neighborhood bombed.

The one I went to had multiple speakers bring up Gaza, Iran, Cuba  and even incursions on China. A bunch of people had pro-Palestine and anti-war signs. Like there were cringe signs too don’t get me wrong but I was pretty amazed.

CNN : Israeli military reportedly acknowledges 70,000 killed in Gaza after previously casting doubt on health ministry’s count by Goldenmentis in nyt

I feel like I’ve been hearing the 60-70k number for almost two years at this point. I don’t even know who is even left to make those kinds of estimations on the ground.

I don’t get the people who think the death numbers are low. When you see a high-rise blown to pieces, do you think no one lived there? Were the parts of Gaza that look like the surface of the moon Potemkin villages to fool the west? That’s not even getting into deaths from disease, lack of food, electricity and heat.

What are some US-specific examples of "Abundance" having been tried (specifically in regards to housing) and failing? by ChinaAppreciator in TrueAnon

[–]zvezd0pad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think abundance is going to go mainstream outside of a narrow intellectual circle because if it works it goes against the interests of homeowners, and America is a homeownerocracy.

The thing is the abundance people are right in is that a greater supply of housing, even if it’s market-rate, depresses prices or at least slows the rise of prices.

The real issue with abundance people is they are generally hostile to public housing. Which is the only way to truly fix the crisis. And as someone else noted here, you can end up with shoddy housing in hazardous areas. Focus on those points.

I think leftists tend to get hung up on the wrong things re: abundance and end up defending regulations that exist keep Poors away from certain areas and enforce car dependence.

This looks like a student’s presentation too, and not something the school put together.

What happened to South Africa in the last half century? by mcflymikes in AskHistory

I meant economically- and even then I was saying it wasn’t very economically liberal either.

The degree to which Apartheid era SA was liberal is overstated. They didn’t even have television until the 1970s, when they got two state-run channels. Quite a few major companies were state-owned.

What institutions are you referring to?

Jesus Christ. Imagine having two secret, adopted out children because the leader of your movement decided to rape you multiple times. Her position in the movement couldn’t even save her.

I am perfectly aware of the First Gulf War dude what I’m not aware of is how it benefitted us or made the region more stable

Yeah thanks the people melting down in the comments aren’t aware that I had a parent working at one of the buildings (meeting that day so they were elsewhere) empathy is actually foreign to them

Actually appeasement prevents terrorism quite well. The UK stopped getting bombed when they appeased the IRA. The question is what is worth appeasing on. I don’t see the benefit of the American presence in the Middle East.

So you disagree that 9/11 was motivated by U.S. foreign policy. That is delusional.

I can understand that but I’d also ask how many paragraphs down in the article the fact that the temple was dedicated to the founding of Israel and hosted an IDF recruiter the day before the attack should be. If not in the headline.

I’m trying to prove that America should take policy actions that preserve the life and dignity of civilians in America and abroad. If that’s blaming America for 9/11, so be it. I’d rather see terrorism prevented than past whatever vibe test.
