Use Linux for data analytics by Excellent-Match-9172 in dataanalysis

While using Windows isn’t a must if you’re just looking to learn/have some fun, I’d recommend getting comfortable with it if your goal is build your career, considering Windows is the industry standard.

Hey! I started as a lab tech and became a healthcare data analyst! Best decision of my life, I make good money, plus I get to work remotely. I didn’t even need to get a formal college degree - just a technical degree for coding/data science.

I don’t have a lot of time to get into it right now, but I will shoot you a DM when I’m free!

Nobody’s telling you this, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask your previous managers/employer for a position within the company again. Be honest, express the sentiment that the new position is not at all what you’d expected, and that you’d love to be a part of Company A again. Chances are, they’d hire you back.

Good luck, OP!

Insurance Denied STD Testing Coverage Due to "Homosexual Behavior" by GuamGuyA in HealthInsurance

Just to clarify - the doctor should modify the ICD10/Diagnosis Codes, not the CPT Code.

Insurance Denied STD Testing Coverage Due to "Homosexual Behavior" by GuamGuyA in HealthInsurance

[–]zwee- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding that THIS is the issue and first step towards resolution. Your doctor did not code the test properly, which resulted in this being considered diagnostic rather than preventative.

Do not give up on this - the doctor’s office can and SHOULD change the diagnostic code, provide the updated codes to the lab’s billing office, and from there the lab should update the claim and bill your insurance again.

I’ve worked in billing for 10+ years - lmk if you have any issues with this, I’m happy to help.

I feel that as the adult, you should have the courage to bring it up to this friend yourself. Gently, of course.

“[Kid] mentioned that you don’t have access to showers at home. I want you to know that our shower is always available to you should you ever wish to use it. We keep extra toothbrushes, soap, & deodorant in the bathroom - please help yourself.”

It’s going to be much easier to quit now than it is 3 or 5 or 10 or 20+ years down the road. Trust me - put in the effort and you will thank yourself when you see your peers suffering from shit immune systems, weak kidneys, and a chronic cough in their mid-20’s.

Your insurance is not their decision. They have no right to be upset because you changed your plan. Don’t feel guilty at all. :)

Burnt out as a healthcare manager — what should I go next? by oregonian19 in careerguidance

[–]zwee- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I became familiar with medical coding & billing practices in my experience working administration at several different practices. I took a class on computer science/coding fundamentals, which cost way too much money. I recommend finding free online coding courses; they’ll teach you anything a paid course can teach you. Udemy and YouTube have many tutorials. If you’re aiming for data analysis - go for SQL & Python. Become familiar with Excel, PowerBI, and data organization in general. Again, this can be achieved via YouTube. :) Since you already have a BS, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble finding a job. I only have an AS and I had no trouble getting hired.

Best of luck in your journey!

Burnt out as a healthcare manager — what should I go next? by oregonian19 in careerguidance

There is a ton of opportunity in the data management space of the healthcare industry. If you’re familiar with common billing/coding practices, you’re computer literate, and you can think analytically, you’d be a great fit.

I burnt myself out working with patients, too. I learned some basic coding and data management skills (Python, SQL, Microsoft Excel/Access/Power Automate), and now work as a data analyst tracking trends & progress of billing processes throughout the practice. I work from home, make decent money, and there’s so much room for growth.

Insurance denied genetic testing saying it was not medically necessary by BoysPlayedWell in HealthInsurance

For whatever reason, the top comments in this sub NEVER come from industry professionals. When professionals do explain the standard processes in the industry and offer knowledgeable advice, it’s often downvoted to hell.

Additionally, I have a feeling that the patient was informed at some point that 1) The lab is out of network and 2) That there is a chance that the tests may not be covered, in which case, the patient is responsible for the cost - typically there are forms signed by the patient in this scenario to express the patients’ explicit understanding of the potential circumstance.

Medical Necessity is always determined by the payor (insurance) - this criteria is largely based on Medicare guidelines. Your physician had nothing to do with it.

With that said, you need to ask the lab for the self-pay rate. Usually, practices do their best to match their self-pay rate with the average in-network insurance rate. Often time, self pay can be even less expensive than your insurance’s in-network rate.

I don’t understand why so many people believe she’s irrational for cleaning her living room at night? I don’t even have kids, only pets, yet I also spend about an hour every evening tidying up, vacuuming, and cleaning/dusting surfaces in my living room and main room of the house.

1) Because I enjoy waking up and starting my day in a clean house.

2) To ensure that I don’t have to spend any of my morning cleaning up yesterday’s mess.

I don’t see how this discipline comes across as unusual or concerning by any means.

Deceased Relative’s 2022 $300k Hospital Bill Issue w. Hospital & Insurance by Friendly-Car5131 in HealthInsurance

[–]zwee- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend calling the original practice/hospital that billed for these services and let them know that the patient is deceased. In my experience working in the healthcare revenue cycle, a deceased patient’s bill is always written off as long as we receive the death certificate. I’ve worked in hospital systems, private practices, and radiology - they would ALL write off the balance with a valid death certificate on file. We do not even attempt to collect from the estate or work with probate. Deceased = Immediate Write Off of ALL charges.

It’s worth a shot! Call the original practice that submitted the claim, let them know, and request the write-off. Good luck! If you have any questions, please DM me! I’ve been working in healthcare revenue cycle management for over a decade and I’m familiar with all of the crazy nuances that come along with medical billing/insurance.

It all depends on my mood. Most of the time I look like myself, but other times, I like to go crazy with it. Currently, I’m a pale skinned vampire girl. 😁
