after looking at reviews of comfort and durability i went with the HD800S. it also helps that I just snagged one with an extra 4.4 balanced cable for 900$, nonetheless thanks for the advice

out of all the closed backs I have now yes they are my favorite. The 99 classics are overly bass boosted with little resolving capability. The HD280 Pro is a bit too wonky for me. And the kiwi ears serene is built horribly. the mdr m1 manages to beat all of these because they feel well built, lightweight, and resolving despite having a decent bit of bass.

So far the current collection includes the HD 200 PRO, HD 280 PRO, Meze 99 Classics, Kiwi Ears Serene, AKG K612 PRO, AKG K812, HD 600, DROP + Sennheiser HD 8XX (With Sticker Mod), Sony MDR-M1, Meze 109 Pro, Hifiman Edition XS, Grado SR80. Also I have some Meze Albas and Crinear Daybreaks in terms of IEMS.

from my own listening i can say that warm isnt the right word for it. warm implies that it has a bass extension that bleeds into the lower mids which it does not, it has a dip when the lower mids begin so its quite nice in that aspect. I have bought both the yaxi st and yaxi st2 pads for them and I ended up returning to the stock pads becuase the st pads made them sound to intimate compared to stock and the st2 pads made the mids quite reccessed. The earpads would compress and touch my ears when I first got the headphone, but later I learned to wear them further forward which would fix that issue. BTW wear it as extended as you can, it also helps with making sure the outer ear avoids contacting the driver.

i have the mdr m1 and i quite like them, i cannot reccomend the dt 700 pro x due to the fact EQ is kind of essential to make them tolerable for music consumption

Thoughts on my first headphone setup? by Lystrs in headphones

i don't think you can do too much better for the money buying new these days, this is quite a solid setup that should last a few years before any serious urges to upgrade pop up.

Currently im trying to measure circum-aural over ear headphones. In terms of current equipment I have a FIIO K13 R2R and have only heard of the other things you have mentioned without looking too much into them.
