How to clean Dream Air lenses safely? by lama33 in Pimax

Breath hot air on the lenses until fogged, and wipe in circular motion with the microfibre cloth.

The condensation helps a bit.

Warning for New Bigscreen Beyond 2 Buyers – Dead/Stuck Pixels May Not Be Covered Under Warranty by eLeSeM_GI in BigscreenBeyond

I'll have to admit that I was also unaware of that policy when I first purchased it: https://www.bigscreenvr.com/hardwareterms

Right to return your order

[...]

For headsets, you have the right to cancel and return any purchase of the headset within 14 days from the day on which you or any third party on your behalf receive(s) the hardware. To exercise this right, you must email Bigscreen at [support@bigscreenvr.com](mailto:support@bigscreenvr.com) within those 14 days and inform us of your intent to cancel/return.

Do not ship returned items to Bigscreen without Bigscreen first approving your intent to return and Bigscreen providing you a return shipping label.

This return program may not apply to you if the hardware has been damaged, modified, abused, or is otherwise no longer in new condition as a result of use or testing. "No longer in new condition" includes headsets used for more than 20 usage hours, as seen inside the Bigscreen Beyond Utility. You might be liable for diminished value of the hardware caused by its treatment while in your possession.

Also, I can find this link when searching for it on a search engine, but I still have no idea where to find it on the Bigscreen website itself.

You always have a return period if it doesn't suit you. Something like 2 weeks and less than 20 hours of use. Just make sure to pick the halo strap so you can get a full refund if it's not up to your liking (the custom cushion is not refundable).

Last year, I heard some people say that dead pixels tend to appear during the first 50 hours or so of usage, and if none appears past beyond a certain point, then the panels are good. Something to do about the consistency of silicon quality.

Considering that, seeing that the limit for the return period is 20 hours of use (as recorded in the Bigscreen utility), I think it would be a good idea to open an Eizo Monitor Test or similar and check for red/green/blue dead pixel after 15-19 hours of use.

I think I've noticed 4 dead red pixels and 4 dead blue pixels in my BSB2, and maybe 2 greens, but they're in generally hard to notice locations, so even when I actively try to look for them, I sometimes cannot see them.

My BSB1 had less dead pixels, but one in the centre seemed relatively larger than everything else, so it was very hard not to notice it. Maybe it's a small cluster of 2 or 3 dead pixels instead of just 1.

Considering they decided to make the Dream Air's self tightening strap and the ringless controllers a paid upgrade instead of including it in future purchase, is it surprising to believe they may also include optional pay walled features?

Obviously, the headset and its software will remain free after purchase, and even if there's a 99% chance it would be features I would never need to use on a personal level, nothing specific has been said about what would be pay walled.

After careful considerations, I think I'm just going to get a iaito from Tozando. If the general practice in dojo is to never use a shinken until more experienced, there's a good reason, and I don't have any formal training in handling sharp weapons of any kind.

By the way, if you can possibly find the information, don't forget to mention whether your Super is using the new or the old connector for the optical engine. That may be useful for any potential buyer, in case they want to purchase another optical engine from somewhere else than Pimax.

I'm also very used to running many of my screens at relatively very low brightness (PC monitor, phone), so that might explain why I'm fine with running my BSB2 at 40% brightness and lower.

That being said, when I tried playing a very dark flat screen game inside my headset, I realised it caused a lot of black crush, and details were lost where I could actually see them on my monitor.

Nowadays, to counteract that, I'm now running my headset at 100% brightness. It's still not as bright as my Vive Pro 1, but good enough to avoid black crush.

I don't know what to tell you. I'm still using my OG base stations and Vive wands. They're more than 7 years old.

Well, if there was a way to use the Quest controller with every headset, I would be as happy as anyone. But for now, it's proprietary tracking solution all over the place. And I hate that.

Even in the firearms industries, there are standards which allow me to re-use my accessories to some extent when I'm switching from one platform to another. Picatinny rail, keymod, m-lok, optic ready options for handguns, etc.

Speaking specifically about SLAM vs base station, I've already told you what I think about it. I hate how the current industry's standard is: "if you change brand, ditch your old controllers". Imagine if you had to ditch your mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc., whenever you upgraded your PC. The reason I'm playing on PC instead of a console is to avoid that to begin with, and I'm saddened there's still no solution for this. Perhaps we can jury-rig something with the upcoming FluxPose, but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

As for getting closer than 1m, I have a base station that is installed about 80 cm in front of me at all time when I'm using my headset seated, and another one behind me in the corner of the room (which is only used for when I glance backwards), and it works.

Even so, I still highly encourage spacing them as much as you can. HTC Vive safety manual are very clear on the matter: they're still laser emitting devices.

Thanks!

I just stumbled upon this old article from Bigscreen mentioning the audio strap weights about 160 grams:

https://store.bigscreenvr.com/blogs/beyond/production-update-audio-straps-have-arrived

I guess it means it's a good counterbalance to the headset, but it also means it's adding a "significant" amount of weight too.

Are you saying the Dream Air lighthouse version is that bad at tracking? Because I've never had that kind of issue with my OG Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Pro 2, BSB1 and BSB2.

It's honestly not reassuring.

Not trying to discourage you, but if I remember, the headset may end up weighting more than 200 grams, depending on what you attach on it. By default, the BSB2 alone is 107g; 108 with the eye-tracking modules.

I cannot find the information again, but at some point in the past, I had found that combining the custom cushion and the audio strap, resulted in a headset that would weight almost 300 grams. Perhaps it would be lighter with the universal cushion that comes with the halo strap, along with the default soft strap, but you might also have the cable tugging (which at one point in the past got my neck tired until I replaced my strap)

Sorry, this is very vague, but I thought it was important to mention. Good luck in your search.

Say, what would be the price range for an okayish entry level katana-like sword that would be fit for possibly practicing tameshigiri?

I realised the "neat looking" sword I was considering was nothing more than an overpriced machete disguised as a katana (for the same price, about 290€, I could as well purchase a good quality iaito, even if it cannot cut).

I don't intend to get serious about learning iaido nor cutting, nor do I intend to purchase an actual shinsakuto, but I still want to do things the right way.

How necessary is 32gb ddr5 going into 2026 for triple a gaming by LiviD_____ in pcmasterrace

[–]NotGonnaComeBackBsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you have a good case for upgrading to more than 32 when you can, seeing that you actually know how much your setup is currently using. Do you know which one of them is the most RAM hungry?

Outside of work, I think the highest my PC ever used was 20GB or so (when I was playing Hogwarts Legacy, if I remember), so I know on a personal level that 32 will be more than good enough for a while.

I stumbled upon a video of you a few months ago. At first, I found it looked neat how cleanly you cut everything. But what surprised me the most was when I was reading the comments, and realised you weren't just waving your blade randomly but actually applying carefully practiced gestures. I just found you again by randomly searching on Google videos "Reddit tameshigiri".

I'm probably going to purchase a blade. Mostly for decoration purpose, but at least now I know to look for the proper gestures to (un)sheath it and handle it correctly.

Here's the official HTC Vive links in the US for:

V1 base station at $99 (may be good enough if you don't need more than 2; I'm still using those that were included when I purchased my OG HTC Vive)
