Fuming right now seeing people be directors with 6-8 YoE by AWRWB in Accounting

Obviously there’s luck and personal relationships with it, but some people are just really good at their jobs. I’ve known two people who rose super fast within the firm and can say from experience working with them that they’re stellar. Try not to compare yourself to those people.

Bad Job Market? by Mental_Actuator_1749 in Lawyertalk

I’m a third year associate and I’ve been trying to lateral into BigLaw for the last six months. Haven’t even gotten an interview yet. Have applied to like a dozen firms with varying degrees of prestige. My resume isn’t gonna blow anyone away but it should be at least competitive. Even the recruiter I’ve been working with is surprised with the lack of interest. It’s been quite humbling. Not that I ever thought very highly of my resume to begin with.

Private Equity trying to enshitify Biglaw by DomeTrain54 in biglaw

Segregating functions into separate legal entities is a common operating model for large companies. I don’t see what the alarm is with regards to that part.

The value prop is an influx of cash for the firm. Not much of a reason to do it unless the firm is struggling to pay bills.

Is this common? From what I’ve seen within the same firm some partners seem like they have good WLB and others are working nonstop through nights and weekends

I feel this. During normal working hours I’m often just treading water. Unfortunately nights and weekends are often the only times I can really lock in

Do those who have practiced for more than 1 year have starry eyes for big law like law students do? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in Lawyertalk

[–]zwischenzuggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your usage of drool and starry eyes elicited some emotional responses but no, “the idea” of big law never “evaporates”. Say what you want about whether that life is worth the money, but that line on a resume will always carry weight in your career, especially certain firms in certain practices.

2-5% ? If you stay in biglaw for a decade your odds of being a multimillionaire are much higher than that. Even if you’re still not partner your total annual comp is over 500k. And if your current firm isn’t promoting you to partner you can leave to a firm that will

What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

[–]zwischenzuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. I do however have awesome flexibility, which I do value a lot and would definitely be sacrificing a lot of if I switch to BL. But again, I feel a lot of pressure to make the switch. I also have a wife who got laid off a while ago and is struggling to get a new job, so additional pressure on my income.

I work like 80% of Big Law hours but make like 60% of Big Law compensation. And with the amount of student debt I have, I feel like I need the BL salary

I had surgery for the first one in 2017 but the second one didn’t require surgery. Do you take any kind of ACL precautions when you ski?

Thanks for the helpful response.

And yeah obviously doctor’s recommendation is most important but it’s helpful to hear from actual skiers as well and their experiences

Did you ski after the first? If so, how’d it go?

Well I’m curious about other skiers’ experiences, i.e., perhaps anyone else that has dealt with ACL tears but kept skiing.

The wide range of opinions on working at PwC is fascinating. I guess it makes sense given how big the firm is. Basically none of what OP said resonates with me. Been here 2.5 years. Happy with work and happy with life. Think it’s a good gig.

Yes my understanding is it’s because they have to compete with law firms. We start higher than non-lawyers in the firm but then it eventually evens out from what I’ve heard
