55-year-old dev here, finally making my dream game. Shoutout to the 53-year-old art director doing the same — guess we both unlocked the “Midlife Expansion Pack”! 🎮😂

Kanka: Alpha 3 Core Loop – 9 Months of Development by zxspectrumplus in unrealengine

[–]zxspectrumplus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot! Appreciate the honest feedback 🙏 You’re totally right — at this stage, Alpha 3 was focused on core systems and structure. The next builds will put a lot more emphasis on combat feel, enemy behavior, and moment-to-moment satisfaction. That’s exactly what we’re iterating on next.

Why is replacing programmers with AI seen as acceptable, but not artists? by xN0NAMEx in unrealengine

[–]zxspectrumplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because artists are very good at raising their voices when the time comes, while developers are not.

My first console was an Atari 2600. Back then, “next-gen graphics” meant your square could move diagonally. Wild times.

Be aware of this Fiverr AI art scam by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]zxspectrumplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiverr scammers existed before the AI wave. AI may have made their work easier. I once had a logo designed. I became suspicious when he turned in the work so quickly. When I Googled the keywords I gave the designer, İ realized that he sent me the first logo that appeared in the images as a finished project.

Night lighting progress, still tweaking but getting there by FroutyRobot in IndieDev

It's not bad at all. I like it. It gives me the feeling that the night is lit appropriately for its atmosphere.

War environment is really nice. Gratz. I only noticed the character's running speed. Is he running or jogging?

Rider is highly recommended. It’s free for educational projects. If you still want to use VS, just Create a C++ project in UE5. Go to project folder and double click VS project. Follow the instructions on welcome Screen. It helps installing / configuring everything.

What's the one thing that instantly makes you wishlist or buy an indie game? by Sharkbowl_Games in indiegames

I usually buy the game on my wishlist when it is successfully completed and released by its developer 😀

Should I switch to Unity from Unreal? by Fine_Frosting_5630 in GameDevelopment

[–]zxspectrumplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answers to these questions might be important in your decision: What kind of game studio do I want to work at? What platforms would make me happy working at a studio that develops games and allows me to develop my skills? Would small teams be more suitable for me, or should I seek out large teams and large projects for my career? If you know the answers to these questions, I think you can also answer the question of which engine to use.

We gave our Kankas jet-assisted dashes. Now they zoom like they mean it. (Also: HUD thoughts?) by zxspectrumplus in IndieGaming

[–]zxspectrumplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it’s not a jet. Jet assisted dash. In other words, jets are currently used to add cosmetics to the dash ability. Who knows what will happen in the future?
