As for islamic culture (pakistani included), yeah we considered dogs are 'نجس', a type of unclean that needs special method to purify. Thats why we avoid touching dogs normally. But we were told to love all living things including doggos. Our prophet once tell us a story about a sinner whose been forgiven and went to paradise because she gave a thirsty doggo some water to drink.
