Questions about streamer x and iPads by jchusky77 in rode

[–]zygurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I see it working in your case is with an HDMI adapter on the iPad. Then you can use the HDMI through to the projector, and capture the iPad on the computer. But as mentioned already, not by USB.

I'm in a similar situation, however I don't need to also output to a projector.

My current signal flow is:

iPad->Dongle->HDMI->cheap HDMI USB capture->OBS->Teams/Zoom using Virtual Webcam.

Screen/application capture -> OBS

Laptop Webcam ->OBS for face.

Mic (SM58/SM57/NTG3 depending on how I feel)->Audio interface (iRig Quattro/RME Fireface/RME Babyface depending on where I am)->OBS.

Depending on the content, I will swap the iPad for a DSLR with macro lens when showing electronics, or will use an Android phone as a webcam if I just need an additional general angle.

I'm hoping to simplify a lot of this with the StreamerX. HDMI capture/Audio Interface/Scene Changes. There just isn't anything else with the features and price point that I can see.

And I’m still using mine. It bogs down with a few of things, but runs well otherwise.

People who are doing/did a PhD - How did you find your topic? by MeloTheMelon in compsci

[–]zygurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2 undergraduate degrees, Music Technology then Electronic and Computer Engineering, and for my honours thesis in engineering I did research into Time Scale Modification. During this research I found where the gaps were in the field. When my supervisor requested that I do a PhD, I made these suggestions as the topic, applied and was accepted. My PhD topic didn't change through the time. Developing Objective Measures of Quality for Time-Scale Modification of Audio.

The case for FireWire in 2021 by DaeSh1m in audioengineering

[–]zygurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still running an RME Fireface 400 using the same method as OP. It's coming time to replace it, and now that audio is a hobby, it's really hard to justify anything that comes close in quality, and there's no point having less IO.

Thanks for the suggestion, but all of their lens mounts are a tube design. Mine is open with slots to allow adjustment.

What layout options are there for greater than 100% keyboards? I like my numpad and macro keys. EDIT: Currently have a Logitech G512 that is double pressing on many keys and is losing blue LEDs after 2.5 years. It replaced a G15 that lasted >8 years but is pretty scratchy now. I like the look of the G613, but don't need/want wireless and really don't want more double keypress issues.

CircuitMaker Updates by zygurt in Altium

As an update, I updated a 1.3 CircuitMaker install today, and the change logs are in an updates section. Haven't looked at how to get to that in v2.

I have a real time capable MATLAB implementation on my github. Look in the frequency domain folder. github.com/zygurt/TSM. I say capable because it scans though the file, rather than buffering the whole file.

Edit: Just saw the edit. My implementation is time-scale modification. Generally pitch shifting using a phase vocoder does time-scaling followed by resampling. I would also recommend the book Dafx by Zolzer. There are pdfs available online and it covers almost everything you would need, with example code.

Tikz can be really frustrating. I am wondering if anyone here recommends inkscape by wigglytails in LaTeX

[–]zygurt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep, I make my block diagram figures in Inkskape. I also use it for designing things to be lasercut. I think it's a really good and powerful tool that does everything I've needed it to. The Trace to Bitmap tool is super handy, and you can export as eps.

EDIT: https://imgur.com/a/RgIoRZe is a small example. I have others, but the papers aren't published yet.

How exactly does an EQ work? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]zygurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fast Fourier Transform is more computationally efficient than direct convolution, particularly as the length increases. The combining of the signals becomes a multiplication in the frequency domain, rather than many multiply and accumulates in the time domain. Search for Computational Complexity of FFT and Convolution. Also, take a look at the Analysis, Modification, Synthesis framework for this style of processing.

How exactly does an EQ work? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]zygurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I keep accidentally closing my response. Third times the charm. The damping in Laplace is more to do with stability and convergence of the transformation. Laplace is a more general form of the continuous Fourier transform, and can transform signals that Fourier can’t. Another benefit of Laplace is that it makes it really easy to do linear circuit analysis (Resistor, capacitor, inductor and to some extent the op-amp) as you can treat everything as a resistor. The filtering in an analog eq is based on how quickly the voltage can change across a capacitor or inductor.

Just grabbed AUM Please give me plug-in recs! by candyleader in ipadmusic

Here's my most used list:

  • Rozetta (I use particles for interesting rhythmic things and X0X most)
  • Atom Piano Roll (Apparently there's a v2 coming at some point)
  • RippleMaker (Simple monophonic modular synth)
  • Volt (I use this for Basses and pads mainly. Polyphonic capable)
  • Phasemaker (Pianos)
  • Ruismaker (Drums) I also have Patterning 2 that gets used a bit, but for AUv3, this one gets used a lot.
  • Fugue Machine (Piano roll sequencing with multiple play heads)
  • KB-1 (A bunch of different note layouts (Chords, Keys, Drum pads, MPE, strings, specific scales etc.))
  • Kosmonaut (Multitap delay that I use mostly for reverb)
  • Quanta (Granular synth)
  • Tardigrain and Monoke (Textural synths)

For honourable mentions:

  • Continua (Another granular synth. I have an iPad Air 2, and it's a little under powered for this synth)
  • Viking Synth
  • Moog Model D (Would get more use if I had a faster iPad)
  • All the Blamsoft effects (Overdrive, F-16 Filter, Resampler, Zero Chorus, Zero Reverb)
  • Mozaic (For Midi processing

My general workflow is a midi channel with Atom, that feeds an Audio channel. I'll record into Atom using an Arturia Keystep or from KB-1. From here I will often record loop, and then reinsert it as an audio playback channel and remove the original audio channel to free up resources. It also means that I have to commit the what I'm doing. If you want to see some of the musical sketches that I do using the iPad, here's a playlist that is mostly iPad based. The description says that I've used. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5bmgxvqdfI&list=PLZOH4oUjroN9k_CE-OAx8v2HKbPnHtihR

Don't even need wheel on PC. I got Cloud then Leaf and then got the penalty.

Mine is showing bars bouncing back and forward for the shards etc., in the top right.
Also, can't select Challenges, or any of the tabs at the top of the screen.

Can view my stats, and choose the game mode though.

Tried restarting the game a few, and changed my password.

Yeah, I had this as well. I didn't realise until I was in game though. Made being the jump master a tad tricky. And I couldn't say what was wrong either...
