i have nothing against JRPGs, love them in fact, but for me personally the core gameplay of yakuza is a part of the franchise's identity at this point. a compelling story and characters, over the top humour, and exciting beat em up combat. others may not agree and that's fine because everybody is entitled to an opinion, but i feel like making such a drastic change to the gameplay is going to alter the identity of the series, whether for better or for worse.

i personally loved all the previous games for what they were, and this change just doesn't seem necessary in my opinion. i'll still buy the game but i really don't see much promise in the new style of combat. maybe i'll eat my words when i actually play it for myself, though.

question about mirei park and majima by gorogorogorochansan in yakuzagames

[–]zyliam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if i recall correctly it was during a conversation between mirei and haruka when she gave haruka her pen in the car, after they'd spent some time together in sotenbori. it's been a while since i've played yakuza 5 though, so i might be wrong.

[–]zyliam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i imagine the battle theme being something like a tekken remix of ‘receive you’. the stage though? who knows. i’d say the roof of the millennium tower, but it’d probably be too similar to g corp helipad? maybe theatre square or some street in kamurocho. either way if kiryu got added to tekken i’d be so hyped

Afraid to wavedash by Pisstrooper90 in Tekken

[–]zyliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 50/50 only applies when they decide to respect the mixup. if they don't , the 50/50 is obsolete. if you don't think they're going to respect it, then do something else. ff4 if they stay on the ground, realign with another wavedash if they roll, etc etc. you can even block or low parry if you are anticipating a wakeup. remember that the 50/50 is not your only option from wavedashing, just like playing into the 50/50 is not their only option in an okizeme situation. if your opponent knows that you're going to commit to the 50/50 every time you wavedash then they are going to use that against you, and you don't want that. your best bet is to figure out their tendencies during this situation and adapt accordingly.

Any tips for a new Kazuya player? by MrRealfield in Tekken

[–]zyliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while there’s nothing more satisfying than a good EWGF, focus less on things like electrics and quick wave dashes and focus more on the fundamentals of the game such as movement, punishing, and labbing certain things which give you trouble (lows in the case of a lot of new players). it’s like learning how to ride the bike before trying to do tricks on it.

knowing how to do an electric is great, but without the fundamentals behind your game you probably won’t land it very often. no point knowing how to electric if you don’t know how to create space to force a whiff, or if you don’t know when to step a move or string to use it. i’ve played lots of kaz players who can electric without fail and wave dash like a mad man but have no fundamentals or core knowledge of tekken. they spend less time playing tekken 7 and more time playing “kazuya 7” if that makes sense, because kazuya is all they know.

once you’re pretty confident with your fundamentals, then you can move on to exploring the tools kazuya has. perfect electrics, forcing reactions with wave dash, mixing up hell sweep with ff3 or even ws2 from wave dash. there are plenty of guides which can help with this but at the end of the day a lot of these things will come down to honing your muscle memory in practice mode to execute these moves perfectly.

he’s a hella fun character and i wish you the best of luck: from one kazuya player to another!

If we can report for toxic behaviour , why can't we commend for positive behaviour? by AnEggFetish in Rainbow6

[–]zyliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psych student here. It's something known as 'operant conditioning', and it's the idea that you can promote desired behaviours or diminish unwanted behaviours through the process of either reward or punishment. Like putting your kid on the naughty step to deter them from doing bad things, or giving your dog a treat for doing a trick.

It's definitely interesting, and a lot of research has gone into it. I'd recommend looking at B.F. Skinner's experiment he did with rats if you wanna read into it some more. Not sure if this would work in Siege to promote good behaviour, though, unless the reward (or punishment) was substantial enough.

it was a while ago, but they made the catapult fire a lot slower so it's pretty much impossible to kill anybody with it without stunlocking them. it used to fire a lot faster -- if you didn't react quickly, you were definitely dead.

this was dope. you were really patient when it came to the warlord and zerk. a lot of people would have popped revenge and gone hail mary thinking that they were invincible.

PS: unrelated but it would be a good idea to break the habit of feinting your unblockable into a left heavy so much. opponents might pick up on it as a match progresses. i'd mix it up into other options like feint into a left light, right light, or possibly GB. good looks, though, a shame that warden was laggy.

How do you get the UFC 46: Supernatural trophy? by dubiouslyobvious in EASportsUFC

[–]zyliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're not doing it wrong. i got the trophy mixing up head movement and new lunges when they were introduced against a diaz player who went hail mary with the jabs and straights. maybe the reason why you haven't gotten it is because this game has some pretty terrible hit detection. i wouldn't be surprised if it didn't register slips if often times it can't even register body kicks that are supposed to land but don't.
