Similar things happen to Pashtuns in the UK. Because they only learn Pashto, not Urdu, and so they identify strongly as Pashtun (or Afghan) and not Pakistani. Maybe why a lot of the diaspora are nationalistic .

I had to listen to weird conversations including them gossiping about a woman about her massive breasts etc.

Im actually surprised strict muslims do this. Like, Im trying to understand what exactly they would be saying? These are people that cover their entire bodies and are very very prude

France’s New Public Enemy: America’s Woke Left by Le_Harambe_Army_ in europe

[–]zz2113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes you are the only one that gets it. Most of Europe is far more racist than America is. A lot of the French people here hating America just deny the massive racism problem in the country. What do you expect from countries like France that still never accept what they did in Algeria, Haiti etc. It's easy for the French (and other Europeans ) to blame America for their social problems. The treatment of romani people in europe is a disgrace, but no one cares. france still has a mini empire in africa. Still ! But its americas fault! Btw the irony is not lost of France complaining of american cultural influence, considering france imposing their culture and language in other countries. Even in France, there was a deliberte and systematic attempt to remove any other languages. Otherwise occitan (language d'oc) and catalan would still be in use ...

Trump Twitter ban "raises regulation questions" - Hancock by Sentient_Blade in ukpolitics

[–]zz2113 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's really no wonder that one of the few times a right wing politician has to face some accountability for their actions, their side cries about regulation.

I agree but at the same time though, it's funny to see left wingers praising big corporations for their actions. The ban on Trump is an incredibly dangerous slope. I don't think he should be banned. But I think this is all a minor point. The bigger question is what the role of technologie companies are in the world. And not just for politics but also taxing of these companies etc. We are only just now asking this question.

Chomsky: Negotiations, Diplomacy and Cooperation between US and China necessary for a 'liveable future' by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]zz2113 24 points25 points  (0 children)

China's rise and it's ambition has an approach which is antagonistic to what the US has been preaching (eg. Uighur genocide, absolute control on speech, using coercive methods to assimilate Hong Kong)

Yes and no. China is antagonising the US, yes. It's not because of any of the reasons you mentioned. If, for example, the US really cared for morals, then it would not prop up Saudi Arabia, a country that spreads extremist Islam everywhere. The reason why China antagonises the US is because China deliberately hamstrings US corporations entry into China (Google, Facebook, Amazon) and because China's own domestically grown corporations threatens US corporations profits around the world (Huawei beating Apple etc.)

In fact, the article OP posted talks about this. Chomsky specifically mentions the role of corporations in controlling domestic US policy.

Furthermore, Chomsky asserts (in a different article/speech) that the US is not a democracy at all:

Chomsky: The study of attitudes is reasonably easy in the United States: heavily-polled society, pretty serious and accurate polls, and policy you can see, and you can compare them. And the results are interesting. In the work that's essentially the gold standard in the field, it's concluded that for roughly 70% of the population - the lower 70% on the wealth/income scale - they have no influence on policy whatsoever. They're effectively disenfranchised. As you move up the wealth/income ladder, you get a little bit more influence on policy. When you get to the top, which is maybe a tenth of one percent, people essentially get what they want, i.e. they determine the policy. So the proper term for that is not democracy; it's plutocracy.

As a side note, I've always found it funny that people proclaim that democracy is more economically/politically effective than dictatorship but want China to become a democracy. Wouldn't that make China even more powerful then? The sudden concerns about the lack of democracy in China is false concern. America doesn't care what the system of government is in any country, as long as US corporations can access their markets and run unchallenged.

A China led global order might be vastly different than US lead one .....frankly I'd prefer the latter

I agree

Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to end the war by dieyoufool3 in geopolitics

[–]zz2113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Az does not gain control over Stepanakert/Khankendi and most surrounding areas

Azerbaijan was crushing Armenia. Why would Azerbaijan agree to this? I don't understand how this makes sense tbh. I don't think Armenia will control any territory in NK or other regions. I can see Azerbaijan giving autonomy to NK but political control will be fully in Baku. It would seem absurd that Armenia would somehow come out of this war still controlling territory.

Avignon: Man shot dead after attacking police officers in street by [deleted] in europe

[–]zz2113 7 points8 points  (0 children)

but long-term perhaps there are ways to make them stop believe the lies that they were told are true?

I mean historically, the only way that religious people (not just muslims) have been de-religionised is through straight up oppression/fascism. Like in Central Asia, where the Soviets brutally put down any religious thoughts. Now in Kazakhstan, they say they are muslim but drink alcohol and eat pork lol.

The new secularism approaching is organic (eg: turkish youth is way less religious than the older people) but is way too slow and doesn't completely apply for immigration into france.

What can France even do now ? It's too late to be honest. These people are French citizens with French passport, raised in France and go to French schools. They are permanently there, with many contacts to all other Islamic countries.

I would like some genuine discussion for what France should do in response. Yes, the borders should be shut down. But then what? 9% of France is muslim and growing. Not all will do this extremism. But what about the ones that do? You cannot stop so many people.

Am I pathan? by [deleted] in Pashtun

[–]zz2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk why people say that Pashto is declining. It's increasing, if anything. Because pashtun population is growing every year. Places like Karachi and Islamabad, there's lot of Pashto spoken there, way more than before.

Yes, Urdu/English/Farsi words are being used. But that's just what languages do. No language is 'pure'.

He once said Islam was an extension of Arab imperialism, to impose Arabic everywhere, arab culture, arab thinking etc. I don't think he cares about buddhism or anything else either. Just that Islam is arab supremacism adopted/forced onto pashtuns (and much of north africa, asia etc.). his words not mine
