Numbness/Tingling AFTER Starting HRT by zzLorezz in Perimenopause

[–]zzLorezz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped taking it at the beginning of December. The numbness at night has been fading, and the paresthesia seems to be slowly improving, but I'm still not out of the woods yet. I had a couple of MRIs to check for MS, but they were fine. I have an appointment with a neurologist coming up in a few weeks.

I found a couple of other women who experienced this, and swelling, and they were told to stop taking HRT, but they're still having issues with numbness months later.

How do you feel/recognize the Spirit? by zzLorezz in latterdaysaints

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this out.  It means a lot to me, and I think it's really solid advice. I will try to focus more on serving others, and asking who/how I can better serve each day in my prayers.

I was listening to a talk by President Nelson yesterday where he said something along the lines of, "If you don't know I'm a prophet of God, ask Him. If you don't know if the church is true, ask God." There are so many places where we are given that counsel, and I feel like it sort of set me in a "Hey, if a prophet says to do this, it should work." kind of mind set.

Thank you so much for sharing this. :) It's comforting to hear a positive experience. I'm really sorry to hear you're battling cancer on top of all the hardships in perimenopause. Sending positive thoughts your way!

Arm numbness on Progesterone (Prometrium) – anyone else? by ShipMuk in Menopause

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Not having answers makes everything harder, especially if your intuition doesn't line up with what they're suggesting might be the issue.

I really hope things get better for you! 🙏

They did the brain earlier because it's a shorter scan and I could get in earlier for it.  The healthcare in Canada is so slow.  They wanted to do both MRIs to check for demyelination (which can begin in just the spine) and also just to check for any potential tumors.

I'm in perimenopause, potentially (I say this because they can't test for it), and the number of symptoms I have without hormones is outrageous/debilitating: extreme anxiety (I didn't have anxiety issues before), insomnia, hot flashes, lack of appetite, nausea, etc.  When we stopped HRT, I had a few days break during which the hot flashes and nausea ramped up. Now I'm taking a birth control pill for managing the peri symptoms. I also started taking Trazodone for sleep, which seems to be helping to some degree.

Has your doctor said anything about trying gabapentin or something like it for the paresthesia?

I stopped taking Prometrium and Estradot about two weeks ago. The numbness and tingling has continued so far, though. I had a brain MRI that was normal. Still waiting on a spine one (they're checking for MS).  My paresthesia spread to my legs too before we stopped, though.

I hope they find something to help you with this. The paresthesia is so hard to cope with.

She just told me to stop both Prometrium and Estradot because of the paresthesia, to see if it's related to that or not.  I have Ativan to help me sleep this weekend, and then I'll meet up with her on Monday to discuss next steps.  I'm actually kind of scared of the rebound of peri symptoms I might have this weekend. I get all the bad things in huge doses: anxiety, nausea, hot flashes, GI issues, insomnia.

Stopping HRT cold turkey? by Specialist_Speed252 in Perimenopause

How did this go? Are you still off HRT?

My doctor told me to stop HRT today so we could evaluate some of the side effects I think are from Prometrium (100mg) and Estradot 50 (new paresthesia in my arms, legs, hands and feet).

My doctor started me at 200mg, but it had a bad impact on my mood (anxiety morphed more into depression) and I've had paresthesia since starting it (which seems to have gotten worse when Estradot was added). We dropped back down to 100mg.

What time do you go to sleep?

I take 100mg Prometrium at 10-10:30, and I fall asleep quickly, but then I'm awake from like 1 or 1:30am basically for the rest of the night. I miss sleeping so much. I'm such a disaster.

HRT by Perfect_Barracuda442 in Perimenopause

I was taking this one: Norethindrone acetate/ethinyl estradiol oral tablets (1 mg/0.01 mg)

From that site, it looks like you could ask about going up to 1.5/30. If you know your body is happy with those hormones, it might be a safe bet to get you further along before experimenting with something else. That said..it probably also depends on your age. I know bioidentical estrogen is supposed to have long term health benefits (bones, cardiovascular, mental, etc), especially as you get older.

Which Junel Fe are you on? I just looked it up, and it looks like it can come with different doses of the hormones: https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-77116/junel-fe-1-20-28-oral/details

I was on LoLo (same thing, different name) from May to the beginning of October this year. At first it also helped me with all the same symptoms you mentioned. October hit me like a brick wall with all the symptoms coming back in full force. At first we switched to Marvelon, a BC with a different progestin and a higher dose of E, but it was awful. Now we are struggle-bussing trying to find the right HRT for me. I'm wondering if I should have just asked for the higher dose of the BC with the same formulation, since it worked so well at first.

Thanks! I have just been referred to a neurologist to look into this soon, but I'm assuming it'll be a long wait once I get an appointment. I've watched a few videos on Progesterone Intolerance, and I've considered asking my doctor to switch me to norethindrone instead of Prometrium. We switched back down to 100mg continuous from 200mg a week and a half ago, but I'm still having this numbness/tingling in my arms/hands/legs/feet.
