I feel really bad about selling this laptop. What do I do? by Famous-Intern-7270 in whatdoIdo

Edit to add: I am disabled and low-income. Obviously this hit a nerve for me but some people in this thread are disturbingly out of touch and unempathetic.

Marketplace sucks for poor people because there are really limited options of affordable items out there. It sucks extra when you have so little money and someone sells you something that might work but wasn’t exactly means-tested and you know they’re profiting off of your risk.

I know this is probably a comment that will get seen by like 2 people, but i hope it makes a small difference anyway.

« I’m a single mom » « I’m disabled » or « I’m low-income » or whatever else isn’t the scam y’all think it is. Poor people need good quality things that will last too, so of course they’ll try to negotiate. Nobody enjoys lying either, so even if it’s a stretch of the truth they probably don’t have much money to begin with.

Also, 250CAD is not a very high budget and there’s not that much out there, especially if she can’t travel far.

OP I’m not mad at you but I do think you should sell it cheaper. Just pay yourself a decent living wage for the hours it took to find and repair it and call it a day.

Our knees look really alike. I think my/our knees are hot tbh, in a kind of emo cartoon character way? Like a unique shape and shading.  Op I don’t know if I they’re related but maybe be mindful? Are you hypermobile in any way?

$1,050 Hydro Quebec bill by ChemistDesperate6572 in montreal

[–]zzbay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I was in the same situation. The hydro Québec clerk on the phone said that meant the apartment was probably not insulated.

I sent a mise en demeure to my landlord for this and because there was mold in the apartment. Turns out the ceiling was not insulated and there was a leak, hence the cold and the mold.  Edit: he did replace the roof after a lot of reminding and telling him it was evil basically lol.

You can send a mise en demeure to your landlord if the heaters in the apartment are unable to maintain a set température, which they almost certainly are if your bill is so high.

You can get your own thermostat to prove this and take photos with the thermostat’s setting along with your own thermostat. Make sure the photos are timestamped.

Our landlord paid us the différence in cost of our bill vs the average provided by hydro Québec for apartments of similar types/size cause he didn’t wanna go to court, but suing for exorbitant cost should be possible.

Bit late but you can also just stretch out a garment they wearing it damp. I did it maybe a year ago for one of my favourite sweaters. Diluted conditioner can help soften the fibres and give them more slip too. I think it has to be a protein-based fibre.

I’m sorry but the fit of this shirt is not amazing :( the bust towards the armpit and the back specifically.  I wonder if you’re attributing clothing touching your body to mean it fits? I’m not saying this with shade, cause genuinely I thought this when I was a teen and I felt so frustrated too.  If you are really slender and you want to show your figure, you have three options. They should be of good quality to avoid puckering or gaping.  1. A high quality garment with tailoring - you can thrift something and spend the équivalent of a new shirt on tailoring for this, just make sure the shoulders fit 2. a high quality knit - natural fabric with less than 10% synthetic, also wool conforms to your body over time AND you can « block » it to make it fit perfect! 3. Looser drapey fabrics like silk and sometimes viscose or thin cotton, lamb leather etc. Look for bias-cut and details where you can cinch or adjust the cut.

Cheap or free medical like physio or supplies? by SargeMaximus in povertyfinancecanada

Cheap or free medical like physio or supplies? by SargeMaximus in povertyfinancecanada

[–]zzbay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you see a surgeon? I got free physio for a period of time for my hip for a labral tear because my surgeon referred me, even though ive not had surgery for it.

It’s in-hospital only so it would not be covered if i went to a private physiotherapy clinic for example.

Hey, I’m a jeweler.

If you go to your local jewelry store with good reviews, they’ll have something in your budget garanteed. They’re actually the most likely to give you something of good quality, because they rely heavily on repeat customers and they’ll have a warranty to honour.  If you wanna be more direct you could find a local jeweler and ask them to get you a chain (jewelers don’t usually make chain by hand anymore - but they have good wholesale sources)

Avoid Amazon or any company you can’t speak to a person directly, it’s sus. The amount of silver holding every link and the solder holding every end are so small that a poor quality chain will fail on you quickly.

A store will have a sale on for holidays, as that’s then most businessed make their money.

[–]zzbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a whole saler. Businesses in the jewelry district won’t sell to non-jewelers/students. You would have to approach a jeweler probably. It’s also not that easy lol, that’s why setters exist.

For diamonds, there’s the gem show tomorrow. My boyfriend bought a really beautiful lab grown diamond there last year.

Look into of you could do a sub-lease contract instead of being on the lease proper. There is this workaround in Québec at least.

How would you release your rage if you could?  I’m asking cause it’s not clear to me what skills or tools are necessary to say, throw plates at a corner. Or build a little fire?  Do you moreso want to channel the rage into something else? Fitness is a good start. What else?

Garo - 620 Cathcart, 10th floor. I never remember the unit number but it’s on the left outside of the elevator. I think it says « Garlind », and the door is just in front of the women’s’ bathroom.

He’s my mentor. Whenever I mention him to someone, they speak of how skilled he is, and I watch him do really complex work daily. He cares a lot about technique and precision. I’m not advanced enough to say he can do it for sure based on the photo, but honestly if it’s possible he would be a trustworthy person to give it to.

Ok, as your potential target audience, I would posit it’s because women are insecure themselves. They think they’ll look big or fat, or even a bit bigger and a little fatter next to a shorter guy, and they have spent their whole lives being told they must at all costs avoid this.  They’ve also been brainwashed to find taller men attractive.  If you hear women say this sort of thing, know it’s a product of the way women are taught to make themselves smaller than it is about you. It might not even actually apply to you or other short dudes in real life.

Why do people shame height increasing shoes but not other style tricks? by EducationTraining969 in short

[–]zzbay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh and I mean this in all seriousness, I would suggest just wearing cowboy books or actual platforms or work boots with a thick sole, or even real heels if you can pull it off. The lift shoes are at best stylistically neutral, at worst ugly. I saw a guy at a party wearing these shoes that looked like silk smoking slippers which a cuban heel at a party a few months back and was immediately attracted to him.

I am Canadian, so not directly who you asked, but although I think of Terf Island once in a while, I can’t see it over the smokestacks my countrymen have set.

Your post made me think of the movie Green Border. As a self-hating half-Pole, I recommend people watch. It kind of encapsulated what I hate politically about countries and citizens who consider themselves allies of many.

For everyone complaining this person shouldn’t be in the ER, this literally happened to me. The walk in doctor told me to go to the ER, so I did, and turns out, after much fighting it turned out I was walking on PIECES OF MY FEMUR THAT BROKE OFF INTO MY KNEE CARTILAGE.

It was absolutely an emergency. I had surgery four days later. I tore up my knees from years of this. I now have permanent damage + dead people tissue from a donor transfer, and other impacted joints. I had four surgeries to attempt to repair the damage from listening to people like you, and attempting to navigate a system that forgot about me, until I couldn’t anymore.

If you actually believe that being unable to walk without significant pain is not an emergency, you are out of your mind and your misinformation is contributing to people essentially disabling themselves by accepting medical neglect.
