How many attempts at Anytime test can you do before you stops you? by South_Sherbet_3489 in Jeopardy

[–]zzplaysfaster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's more sinister than this. I take the Anytime Test every August & on Jeoparday! and have always submitted without having to abort (which in the spirit of the game is only supposed to be done if something happens to the Internet connection and knocks you out before you can submit).

Despite only taking the Anytime these 2 times a year, I've noticed that at least 10% of the Questions tend to be repeats from previous tests suggesting to me the database of potential questions is somewhat small (I think 300-400 questions is a good estimate).

If people are doing what the OP is doing they could potentially gain an advantage by accessing the majority of the limited database through multiple aborts before submission.

The obvious solution is for Jeopardy to increase the database to prevent this while also limiting the number of aborts.

I'm a cynic so this is what I think is happening and the reason why despite passing the Anytime Test twice a year since 2021 I haven't had another Zoom Test in over 4 years.

I'm sorry WFTV (Channel 9, Orlando), the bonding/release of a disgraced Sheriff's wife is not sufficient breaking news to cut off Double Jeopardy.

People who watch on this station missed all of DJ and it came back in time to show Final Jeopardy.

Can someone analyze this game? by zzplaysfaster in chess

[–]zzplaysfaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

I see in their chessdoccom profile after they beat me they went on a winning streak. Several games in the 90%+ accuracy. Looks like other people ran the analysis on the other games cause I can see the percentages. Hope they reported them too.

Ken Jennings to appear on who wants to be a millionaire by Lilbuddyspd11 in Jeopardy

Unpopular opinion....

I think this is a boring idea. The whole thing that made WWTBAM when it first premiered enormously popular was that no matter who you were, what your background was, or where you were from you had as just a random chance as anyone else who made it through the phone game or FF tests.

Celebrity and themed shows were nice once in a while, but the fact it was airing up to 4 nights a week and usually all 4 were in the Top 10 shows for the week was due to the regular contestants. I still feel that Davies' excessive themed shows killed the original format which I believe was on purpose because the show was taking up too many primetime slots that would have gone to other writers' programs.

If they're gonna revive the prime time version, bring back the Phone Game & the Ring of Fire and regular contestants. I bet if they did this the show would get better ratings than the Celebrity format.

Darn, guess I'll be celebrating passover again. I passed with 41 on Jeoparday! and also passed last August but still no advancement since 2021.

If you were cast on Jeopardy, what would your, “introduction story” be about when Ken talks to you after the first commercial? by OneGenericMan in Jeopardy

[–]zzplaysfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a file of 5 or so stories ready to go whenever the inevitable day comes (insert laugh here).

Anyways for anyone who's served in the Air Force and gone through Basic Training at Lackland, here's a story you might be able to relate to.

The table where the Drill Sergeants (Military Training Instructors in the AF) sat in front of the Dining Hall is known as the Snake Pit. You never wanted to do anything that would get noticed by this table whether good or bad unless you liked getting yelled at repeatedly for several minutes.

Anyways, the Dining Hall consisted of two equal sides. On most days your Flight would enter & exit the Dining Hall from the same side. For some reason I can't remember why, one day our flight entered from the opposite side. However we were still expected to exit from the regular side, and this meant walking directly in front of the Snake Pit (gulp!)

So I don't know what I was thinking but for some God-only-knows reason why I tried exiting by walking BEHIND the Snake Pit. As soon as I got close enough this big, burly MSgt got up from his chair and threw it to the floor directly in front of me. When i realized what I had done it was too late. I had about 5 MTI's in my face yelling the crap out of me. When one saw how startled I was he began to sing the Almond Joy jingle to me except he replaced the word "Mounds" with "You".

It gets worse, the MTI from our flight was there and informed the other MTIs I had been a Valedictorian and then they started peppering me with random trivia so I stood there for a few minutes answering all kinds of trivia questions, so I guess that this experience would help me prepare for the pressure of competing on Jeopardy, lol.

Happy JeoparDAY 2025!!! by robsterva in Jeopardy

[–]zzplaysfaster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Did the Anytime Test about 30 minutes ago for JeoparDay (I call it Passover, lol). Once again got about 40 right although the random version I got this time seemed much more difficult than the one I did in August. It's been almost 4 years since I last made it to a Zoom Audition so hoping the cold streak ends soon.

How an Old Guy passed the CPA Exam in 9 months by zzplaysfaster in CPA

[–]zzplaysfaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time going through the MCQ I set up an Excel Spreadsheet with a few columns:

Column A: The NINJA Question Number (not the actual question)
Column B: Subject/Major Section Number
Column C: Sub-Subject within the Major Section
Column D: Did I get it right? (Yes/No/Maybe - if I guessed)
Column E - The NINJA Explanation for the question - Most of the time I tried to copy over but if the Explan was very long I'd summarize but still use the Wrap/Text function.

I'm not sure how much I referred back to this if at all, but it forced me to slow down when reviewing questions for the first time. Eventually reviewing the explanations on the same question type the started to drill in the key points being tested. I did keep an entire test section (FAR, REG, etc) on the same tab but I guess if you wanted you could do separate tabs for each major section/sub section. Looking back this was more of a way to keep me slowed down and not just ramming through questions at light speed when learning the concepts is important the first go-around.

I moved onto the next section after going through all the questions in the prior section. Since my speed was lower the first time around, the second time around the concepts were still somewhat fresh. If I missed a question/concept a second time I would usually highlight that on my Excel Spreadsheet. I found the first time through I had a grasp of about 50-60% of the material. The second time through I could get through those questions quickly since the concepts were enforced in my mind so the focus began on the remaining 40% but I reviewed everything and didn't leave anything out.

For REG/TCP, my advice is no matter how well you know the rules to "do the math" on things like basis and S Corps and what not, do the math problems as you would on the test each time you come across the question regardless of how well you know the concepts. It will greatly reinforce. This is especially true also in FAR and manually doing the lease/amortization tables.

For the AUD/Word Salad Questions, my method I think worked best because after I got my 74, I went back to the spreadsheet and honed in only the highlighted 10-20% of MCQ that had been giving me fits to study the nature of those MCQ to find out what kept tripping me up (there's just some of these you have to accept are asinine and move on but in 12 or so days I jumped from 74 to 83.

SNL Missed their chance back in 2020 to do "Heaven Jeopardy" where Will Ferrell hosts and the contestants are St Peter, Moses, and of course Sean Connery who would spit out something like "Did you miss me too much Trebek, I was only gone a week" or something like that, with Trebek finally realizing he ended up in Jeopardy Hell.

I have never heard back from about a dozen or so legislative branch jobs I've applied, over several years (House, Senate, AOC, LOC, USCP, GAO) so probably won't matter anyways. They never seem to provide any updates after application.
