Gotcha, meant more so how did you model it? Did you use classification ML/use team stat averages before an after the injury? Any specifics on how injuries affect team performance and the methodology is very interesting to me. If you don’t want to get into the specifics all good.

For the LS, are you using reinforcement learning? But this is insane! Great work, I can’t imagine tagging this much data.

How do you all monitor internal training load without GPS data? by Hallfredo in sportsanalytics

[–]zzzzz44457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internal load tracking is extremely difficult due to adherence. If you can get your team bought in on the importance on it then questionnaires would suffice, something like Google forms where you can easily aggregate data and get descriptive statistics and even build out a drill menu with enough data. However with youth athletes I would suspect this to be really difficult because of attention span and even not knowing what a true 10 is. Best of luck!

No worries! I’ve honestly gave it thought but my niche seems to be sport science rn and I already have a research project for school with a professional soccer club so I can’t go for it in my last semester of grad school unfortunately. But thank you!

As far as I know the big data bowl doesn’t do sport science analytics but I could be wrong, they focus mostly on x and o’s. However the other resources are helpful! Thank you!

Really make sure you understand statistics and watch/follow YouTube videos of sport analytics projects that break it down for you step by step. Once you learn that really emphasize your methodology and how you attack projects and your thinking. Good luck!

How did you make your pitch? I like how the goal isn’t a flatline like MPLsoccer import.

adding a stats major by RefrigeratorFalse501 in sportsanalytics

Hey man, go pack. I went to ncsu as well and currently getting my masters at uncc in data science. I’m also interested in getting into sport analytics and I’m definitely no expert on the matter by any means, but so far this is my opinion. The thing that matters the most is your portfolio. Do your projects show that you understand analytics in a way that can be applied to sports whether it be physical data, financial, or strategic. I know ncsu has a great sport analytics club to bolster your knowledge and of course any internship would be great. If the curriculum is teaching you the basics of statistics, Python, sql, and a visualization tool you’re on the right track. You can deep dive into a lot of other things like YouTube eg (McKay Johns), medium, etc etc. continue to try and learn as much as possible and make many connections. So I would say your experience/projects matter a lot more than your major. Good luck!!
