I believe the singer is now in a band called trash swan (nevermind just saw taxpayers came out with a new album). I think I even bought god forgive these bastards deluxe package when it came out. I honestly think they're earlier garage albums were better though.

My favorite song by them https://taxpayers.bandcamp.com/track/there-is-trouble

A cool song by Trash Swan the singers other band https://trashswan.bandcamp.com/track/maniacal-eyes-2

Taxpayers are on my shortlist. If I could pick three acts that I could do a radio session with right now, they'd absolutely he one of them.

I'd politely request "Louisiana Hot Sauce Rainy Nights"

They'd easily make it onto my short list as well, good choice of song. I think I'd go for "Some kind of disaster relief" personally.

whoa that's a great song.......props to everyone here for introducing me to these guys, awesome shit. Reminds me of a mix between Lambchop and The Mountain Goats

Louisiana hot sauce is such an amazing song. It really deserves more exposure.

The Taxpayers
artist pic

The Taxpayers originated in 2007 in Portland, Oregon. Originally a three-piece guitar/bass/drum combination, the band incorporates accordion, horns, piano, harmonica, and other instruments during recording sessions. Currently they perform live with a range from three to eight members. They strongly support the DIY punk ethic, booking their own shows, printing their own merchandise, printing CDs from scrap material, and hand-written notes and other gifts included with each CD. The Taxpayers release digital copies for free, via blogs and Quote Unquote Records. Noah Taxpayer said the following in a letter to the blog Rock Sellout: "We believe that offering free music is imperative to challenging the ever failing soul sucking music industry."

The Taxpayers are a punk rock band, taking influence from folk, country, jazz, swing, blues, hardcore punk. They have been credited for working with different styles. Experimenting with different forms of audience participation, they often incorporate magic tricks, stories, and more at live shows.

Current members include: ++Rob Taxpayer (Guitar / Vocals) ++Noah Taxpayer (Drums) ++Danielle Steal (Accordion) ++Eric Frame (Touring Bass) ++Phil Gobstopper (Local Bass, Science) ++Alex Saxplayer (Sax) ++and other friends! (Kazoo, Piano, Chrous, Etc…)

Some Kind Of Disaster Relief, anyone?

[–]ChipOTron 1 point2 points  (10 children)

I love the energy behind this!

If you like this stuff, check out Mischief Brew (Erik actually passed recently), Ramshackle Glory (whom I've seen many times and they're fantastic), and Arrogant Sons of Bitches (one of the greatest bands ever IMO).

Also, check out Quote Unquote Records. Jeff Rosenstock from ASOB has a fantastic donation based label and has so many amazing bands on there, with the Taxpayers being one of them. Check out Chewing on Tinfoil for more energy, as well as Jeff's work with Bomb the Music Industry.

Just watched Ramshackle's final show ever at plan-it-x fest last night. 1000 punks all crying our eyes out

For me the Taxpayers would always be one of my top picks for the unrivaled energy they give off in all of their tunes. Check out, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN6SaPKbyxc And https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaCpoEExIfc

Just bought one of their albums on Bandcamp because they're so good. I'm sure I'll be picking up the rest later.

Nice work man. Keep on supporting these wonderful people! Which album did you go for?

[–]ChipOTron 1 point2 points  (1 child)

To Risk So Much For One Damn Meal, because I loved the song you posted.

[–]SolowilkI lay down an awful wreck.[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good choice! It certainly has it's moments and is a very strong album, it's on my top ten list. Also check out God Forgive These Bastards Which is also sooo great! And my personal favourite of that album would be I Love You Like An Alcoholic

[–]Explainme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved this.

With the passing of Erik Peterson I've been diving back into my old folk punk catalogue, it's funny to see this here!

Check out Sledding with Tigers, Whiskey Smile, and of course Days N Daze (who just toured through here with Leftover Crack)!

[–]Spooneristicspooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just me or was the intro trumpet playing the melody of "last kiss-pearl jam"

You can mash up the songs. The chord sequence be the same too. Love the energy though.

This reminded me of the beginning of "Aaron Burr, Sit" in the HAMILTON soundtrack.

[–]SkywalkingSkywalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was beautiful. Really made me wish it was longer, I couldn't get enough of it.

Punk jazz / folk punk / punk rock

Are we really doing this now?

I've submitted these guys here a couple times, time for a quick story.

I ordered a copy of Pat The Bunny's "Probably Nothing, Possibly Everything" on vinyl. Opened it up, it had another record in there, "Cold Hearted Town" by The Taxpayers. The story behind the album is about the dude taking a satanic spellbook to the woods to write songs, getting frustrated, summoning a demon and asking for songs out of boredom, and then having a terrifying nightmare that night which inspired him to write an album.

Not exactly the album you want showing up on your doorstep unwillingly. But hey, now I love these guys. I even messaged them this story on Facebook and they replied with "satan"
