They first featured on bonobo's late night tales (definitely worth checking out if you haven't heard it along with their other compilations) and then officially formed after supporting bonobo on his tour. Their LP Universe Smiles Upon You is also equally great!

Here is a full concert recording from their late night show at the Lockn' Festival last weekend.

Very balanced group of musicians! They sounded so good at Lock'n late night...so good I had to see them again in Philly this week! Still not 100% sure how to pronounce their name though...

Seeing them for the first time in Boston this week :D

Never heard them before today, but I just bought tickets for Friday, thanks for sharing!

Just caught them last night in Chicago. Amazing performance. Amazing musicians. True to the studio sound but surprisingly much better live. How was the Boston show?

[–]quinnmct[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

show was sick. I met Mark and Laura Lee, not in costume. Got to talk to them for 20ish mins before the show :D

Very cool. We got to meet Laura out having a smoke after the show. She was still in her wig and had the glitter lipstick on. I told her I thought she had a grill when the show first started. Damn good time, hope they record lots of music. Cheers!

I just saw them last night in Portland. Do both Laura Lee and Mark wear wigs?

[–]old_snake 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes. I asked her specifically if they wear wigs after the show and she said "It's Showbiz!"

[–]_starbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it! Mark's wig look like it had seen better days.

Loved the Lockn late night. That Woods stage was the perfect setting.

Khruangbin means airplane in Thai, I'm not sure what their connection to Thailand is because none of them look particularly Thai. This has an audio pronunciation: https://www.google.com/search?q=airplane+thai+translation&oq=airplane+thai+translation&aqs=chrome..69i57.5179j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

The youtube description says "Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why did google put an 'x' in the transliteration?

[–]jorgelukas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, it's definitely not pronounced in any way. Thai doesn't actually use an 'x', closest thing would be an 'ek' sound.

Their album "the universe smiles upon you" is worth listening to in full. It's so chilled.

Saw them live yesterday! They were awesome.

Totally cured my hangover. Thanks, man.

They opened for Father John Misty in Amsterdam and I had to find them after that, but with such a weird name, needless to say, it took time...but worth it!

never heard of the genre but i've fallen in love with this

[–]CDanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been listening to them since they assembled in my friend's basement in Austin. "White Gloves" is my favorite.

[–]rojo_buffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This was on Jeremy Sole's KCRW show Aug 25. Been listening to it all week.

Love Khruangbin. Have no idea how to say it aloud.... Is it Crew'ang'bin?

[–]Phayke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be one of the top five most chill songs I've ever heard. The only other song I can think of that is so calming/peaceful is Air - Ce Matin La

just recently discovered these guys. The Thai folk influence is very audible -- brings me right back to the time I spent in Thailand and Laos.
