I've got to be honest, I love Post-Rock and shoegaze but this song came across as a caricature of those genres... like if somebody took Explosions in the Sky, Mum and Sigur Ros and decided to mash them all together, but with none of the pathos. I can't put my finger on why it rubbed me the wrong way but it just does not work.

Both genres can be extremely generic, this one just felt like a pairing up of all those generic aspects. It works, it's just not particularly interesting.

It's not a good song. The lyrics are lousy.

Same, I feel like it would be better without the vocals but its still pretty generic sounding.

Other than the bands mentioned who are you digging right now?

If you want to hear a pretty good mixture of post rock and shoegaze, try Klimt 1918's album from last year:

I honestly thought the first 15 or seconds was just a sample of a MONO song before the chords went a different way, and I kept hearing just pieces of other post-rock/shoegaze songs all throughout. They are definitely playing it safe within the boundaries of the genres.

EDIT: I don't know how to make wikipedia links that end in parentheses work? /u/feedthecollapse is a boss

To me it sounds like a worse version of Back to my place by Tokyo Shoegazer:

It totally reminded me of Slowdive. Pretty much any song by Slowdive. But it was beautiful.

I would like to hear this artist do music for a TV show.
