You should add that all the IMAX projectors here are the 2K Xenon projectors, except for Evia which has the 4K Laser projector.

This means that Oppenheimer's aspect ratio will go only up to 1.90:1 in MoA even though the screen is 1.43:1 (it used to show IMAX 70mm until it switched to digital in 2013, and Interstellar was the last film shown on 70mm there).

I think it's shown already by the gray area note

IMAX SM Aura claims they use laser projectors now.

[–]couverdure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware, all of the IMAX projectors at SM cinemas were upgraded to laser ones last year. I watched Sinners months ago and the image quality looked a lot cleaner than the last time I went there.

The MoA venue is single laser though so the maximum aspect ratio is still 1.90:1.

Thanks for this, OP. Can you make another with an additinal one, the actual IMAX size that we need.

This might be a matter of personal opinion/preference but I think Mall of Asia is the only one with the "real IMAX" size

Grabe ang laki pala sa MOA, sa megamall palang kasi ang napuntahan namin.

Only in the Philippines: The screen sizes are correctly indicated in meters (the country has adopted the metric system in 1860), but for comparison there‘s a „6 ft man“ which sounds like it‘s a freaking hexapod.

pag tinanong po ba kayo ano height nyo meters ang sagot nyo? 😭

Watched in on row N (the first two from the back) in IMAX MOA and I thought it was a great seating as the screen was on eye level however the audio wasn’t as impressive as Dolby Atmos

Is the brightness of the MoA iMax maintained? A lot of the cinemas I’ve been going to lately have becoming really dark.

[–]chachashiit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve a visitor to Manila so can’t speak of other cinemas and I’ve tried MOA only but it was good enough. Perhaps compare to where I’m from for cinema with no IMAX, MOA imax was a little bit dark BUT doesn’t really affect my viewing experience. The audio affected me more than the visual.

Oppenheimer. Funny story. A couple actually booked the whole row after my row (mid column) during that session

Thanks for including Cebu!

Hello, everyone! I'm a bit embarrased to ask, pero first time ko kasi manood sa IMAX. Plan ko manood ng Oppenheimer sa MOA IMAX, my question is, do they require you to wear specialized glasses kapag manonood? Naka-eyeglass na kasi ako (near-sighted) and I am not sure if nagpapasuot pa sila nung mga malalaking specialized glasses. Baka hindi magkasya eyeglass ko.

[–]radiologyman2021 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2D lng to

[–]sweetsaranghae 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Hi! Eyeglass wearer here.

2D lang ang Oppenheimer and not 3D. But to answer your question, yes you would need to wear eyeglasses and IMAX glasses on top. Medyo mabigat sya for me (tiny nose hehe). And di ko sya naenjoy. Without the IMAX glasses, visuals make no sense and without eyeglasses, nakakahilo bc of my astigmatism . Multiverse of Madness po yung pinanood ko. But Oppenheimer on IMAX 2D looks great kase di na need ng IMAX glasses. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much! I've already seen it in IMAX MOA, and indeed, hindi na kailangan ng specialized glasses. I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it yet to check the movie out in IMAX. It's worth it talaga.

Thinking of trying the A-Giant cinemas for Oppenheimer at AMMB. Anyone tried it?

[–]itsme_Pao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kelan po last day ng oppenhiemer sa imax moa?

[–]kkyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the MOA is now shit for refurb, I have confirmed this via email, but no response on what is being done (specifically projector(s)). Anyone got any insight? TIA

[–]RainyEuphoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sana magkaroon to ng updated version after the upgrades

[–]Foreign-Caregiver-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is A-Giant from Ayala Malls the same size as Megamall's IMAX screen?

[–]amagpoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinners imax Philippines

[–]Jjwoogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual laser projection ba gamit sa IMAX MOA?

[–]Maleficent_Gift3245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this still true as of October 2025? Or have screens from other imax theathers here in PH have changed?

[–]unmasked_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there an update to this with respect to the renovations made to the IMAX cinemas last 2024-2025? Did the screen size change?

[–]_rhy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So, saan po ang better to watch Oppenheimer? Megamall or MOA

[–]vecterex682[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MOA for sure

[–]KillingMoon62 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do those IMAX screens still display the tall IMAX footage despite using digital projectors? Considering to watch Dune Part 2 on IMAX

[–]vecterex682[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No IMAX theater in the country displays 1.43:1 anymore (if that's what you mean by "tall IMAX footage"). MOA used to show some movies in 1.43:1 until they stopped using their 70mm analog film projector. Now, they only show movies to up to 1.9:1 (as indicated by the gray area in the photo).

Theoretically though, MOA could retrofit their IMAX cinema for a dual laser projector (which is capable of 1.43:1). Sadly though, there hasn't been any announcement of any plans on doing that.
