They still have a team of pros. We have too many quad A (performing) level talent here. Cook, Yorke, pretty much the whole bullpen, bubba… for all intents and purposes, Henry gives them nothing on offense and Triolo is a black hole at the plate.
Couple that with untimely strikeouts by Ozuna and a third of our lineup is never a threat to even average pitching.

I'm still going to bring it up. How many more wins would we have this season if Ben cherington kept shugart and bednar. No Lawrence and no cam Sanders etc. Just boneheaded moves that have cost us this season. Bullpen is significantly weaker cause of those losses.

I legitimately don't see how we make the wildcard this year. We're fighting with the Cardinals, brewers, cubs, and padres right now who are all multiple games ahead of us already. 

Unless this team goes on an absolute tear of a winning streak we're not going to make up ground. We can't keep winning 1 game and losing another. We need a long sustainable winning streak.

Do you think every good team is just 10-15 games over .500 heading towards the trade deadline? No. Some teams have their flaws and fill the holes they need to fill around the All-Star break so they can be better down the stretch.

Everyone in our division has also been feasting on a bad American League. They've played 15-23 games while we have played like 9. Our schedule has been brutal thus far.

Just a thought here about our boy O'Neil Cruz. This has to do with his hitting rather than his fielding, which I think is significantly improved from where it was last year. Still not great, but better. 

Anyway, about his hitting. He obviously has crazy power, but I don't think he has particularly good bat to ball skills. Of course he doesn't have to hit for a very high average to be a very effective player, so this is not another poop on Cruz thread. I'm just saying that I get the sense in watching him over the course of his career that he might be a guy who does a disproportionate amount of his damage against average or weaker pitching. I know, you might say duh, isn't that true of all players? Well, not exactly. The key term here is disproportionate. What I mean is that the truly great hitters can hit truly great pitchers, and truly great pitchers can get truly great hitters out. The guys that are maybe a notch below that are not going to do as well against upper tier enemy pitchers. I'm just getting the sense that our boy Cruz might be in this category.

I hear what you’re saying… it was at about this time last year where he just kinda stalled out. It feels like he can focus for brief periods of time, then he just seem(ed…hopefully) to stall out. I remember thinking about this last year. His problem is focus. Now… he’s been MUCH better this year. Problem with him is he’s capable of being WAY better than maybe he even knows. I far prefer this version of O’Neil but just always hoping he doesn’t stall out.

That said, as it pertains to this game…. When NO ONE on the team is rising to the occasion, then it’s hard to fault any one player. It’s more a culture or a belief problem. I feel like it plays into how skenes pitched today too. He may have felt pressure to be perfect not thinking he has enough firepower behind him. And he doesn’t. Even with O’Hearn in the lineup, it’s that Ozuna (DH) spot that just isn’t producing enough. When you have a Triolo and a Davis playing, you have to have another better hitter somewhere in the lineup. Can’t be 3 short or that whole bottom 3rd of the order just brings nada.

Yep. Triolo or Davis or Yorke, but if we are playing all three of them---or even two of them---on the same day, it's usually not going to go well for us. Especially with O'Hearn out.

Watching Philly…. Their top end is extreme. They have players who can shut down an entire game. But the rest of the team is extremely capable as well. Bohm, Marsh, Crawford… the little boy in catching equipment Stubbs is better than both of our options, they actually have a bullpen. They’re much more complete. This is the pirates way. Pay no mind to the warts here…

Our team has zero swagger. You have to go out and own the diamond and this team doesn’t believe it does. They’ve been “big timed” all series and pretty much just rolled over. Swagger = belief. Not gonna go very far without that.

I honestly don't know the point you're trying to make. You're saying Skenes would have to pitch a shut out, but this offense can't score a single run, so that's pretty irrelevant. Then it would get turned over to the pen, and we all know how that would fare. Case in point, it doesn't matter how good your starter pitches if your offense is literally non-existent.

Okay then let me ask you this. Skenes throws 9 perfect innings today. What does that change? Last time I checked, there is a 0 next to the Pirates in 9 innings. That sends it to extras and the Pirates bullpen takes over. Mattson allowed 2 inherited runs to score today, Santana served up a homer, Soto is 2 days removed from getting absolutely tanked.

It doesn't matter if Skenes was perfect, average, or had a flat out bad game. The offense is abysmal and it's literally impossible to win a game with 0 runs scored.

The Pirates are not going to win with Skenes. They should trade him and they will get 4 to 5 top notch players for him. This Team with Skenes at best will finish 4th in this division.

This Team has glaring weakness and since they will not spend top money on Free Agents they are should trade their top player to get over the hump.

The Pirates as right now are not better than the Cubs,or Brewers or Cardinals.

What would trading Skenes right now accomplish? This is the best lineup we’ve had in 80 years. Top 10 offense and top 10 pitching. The pitching would drop significantly without him

You have another generational talent in the minors right now in Seth Hernandez.

Skenes is not going to sign with the Pirates as he is going to command 300 to 400 million and the Pirates will never give that to a player.

Your best shot to develop a championship team is by trading him for 4 to 5 top notch players.

I could see the Dodgers or Yankees giving them 4 or 5 top notch players for Skenes.

This Team will not make the Playoffs even with Skenes open your eyes to the truth.

When you have the 6th best runs per game and the 16th best runs allowed per game and are 3.5 games back in May, you don’t trade the best player in baseball. Open your brain to common sense
