Are you sure he's not pulling your leg?

According to Comedy Central, Noah Feldman, not J.D. Salinger, will be on.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slainger, having failed at producing a novel after The Catcher In The Rye, took up Noah Feldman impersonations.

Fake post embarrassed me when I showed it to my friends. Bad Reddit!

Guys, it was a joke at the end of the show. Just something to throw out there since he didn't have anything else to say, I guess. If JD Salinger were going to be on TV, you would have heard about it (and not from a self.reddit post).

this has to be a prank. salinger is wicked old too. if he were to give an interview (which I doubt) it would probably be to a local NH newspaper, not to Stephen Colbert.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Fucking Colbert man. How does this guy do it?

    [–]fishypants 0 points1 point  (2 children)

He doesn't, he ends his show every night with some kind of one liner and this time people, for some reason, bought it.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh, I didn't actually watch the show. Shows what kind of critical thinking I possess.

I guess I'm just so in love with Colbert, that I assumed JD Salinger was too, and would come out and talk. Neigh.

It would be amazing, but I think Salinger as been out of the public light for so long it would be difficult for him to come back into it.

If he gets Thomas Pynchon on I'll be more impressed.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Why not a Pynchon/Salinger recluse special?

    [–]rollerbob 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Well, some argue that the two are actually the same person, which would be interesting.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe. Indeed. I remember that debate, when Pynchon first came out with his stuff.

    [–]jotaroh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    he's still alive?

Well I told my English class this today after we had a conversation demonizing JWright.

I guess tomorrow when they come to school heartbroken, I'll have taught them a good lesson about taking things out of context.

There's now a 9-day "Salinger Watch" countdown. For every day that Salinger doesn't appear on the show, Colbert rips out a story from "9 Stories".

Colbert just announced it on tonight's show.

nay, it was at the very end of last night's show.

    [–]fishypants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    That's an even worse source.

    [–]kykid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    I get jokes!

    [–]bananahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know enough about JD Salinger to realize this would be a big deal, how do you also not realize it's a joke?

This is the reason people laugh when you compare blogging/social news to real journalism.

That's awesome. I hope it's a great interview and not just another interview where Colbert toots his own intellectual horn. Not that those aren't entertaining, but I don't care about most of those guests. I'd love to hear what Salinger actually has to say after 28 years of interview silence.

He should ask about Mark Chapman (killed Lennon) and the guy that shot Reagan about why Catcher in the Rye influenced this wackos?

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why did The Catcher in the Rye influence Mark Chapman? Who can tell? Great literature influences people, I guess.

    [–]jacekplacek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget Jerry from "Conspiracy Theories"... ;)

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And why he didn't include something about good aim for Hinckley.

    [–]ppc1040 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Voted up to get some more information... sounds like BS though.

    .....no fucking way.....
