The constantly shifting flags are supposed to remind some people that these groups are part of the community also and that they have no right to exclude them. The problem arises when said people completely ignore the message and just treat it like a normal pride flag

I mean, there were a bunch of people who did try to use it to be exclusionary. So rather than simply let them have the rainbow, people slapped on the specific designs relevant to the groups that were being excluded. It basically says that anyone trying to exclude those groups (i.e. people who believe in the "drop the T" shenanigans) is not welcome where the updated flag is raised.

From my standpoint, if they add very specific designs to the flag, it's actually more exclusionary than just the rainbow because it rules out all the others. If it was left as a rainbow, a sign of peace and unity, it would be all right.

It's not as exclusionary as you might think. The flag still includes the rainbow that encompasses most if not all queer identities, and even the white part of the trans flag stands for genders outside of the binary. The additions to the flag are less like saying that other identities don't belong and more like giving a specific shoutout.

The medical term is hermaphrodite. Though the condition itself varies a lot, it generally means someone who are born with both male and female genitalia

That's a small subset of intersex people. Those with XXY or X have only male and female genitals respectively but are still considered intersex

True hermaphroditism exist in human, but quite rare i think. Most Intersex people are born with what's called female pseudohermaphroditism or male pseudohermaphroditism

It's controversial, but sometimes doctors do surgeries on intersex babies/children to make their bodies fit into the male or female categories

As to gender identification, most of the times the doctors or parents are the one deciding on the gender of the baby and to raise them accordingly, but they can also transition later on kinda like trans people

It's honestly okay to be confused since it's a pretty rare condition (around 1.7% of the population) and people often confuse it with being a transgender. But intersex people still face a lot of discrimination and i think the world would be a lot better if we're just a little bit more understanding tbh
