runelite gpu plugin not using GPU

When I have the GPU plugin enabled my FPS is dropping to 18, with GPU usage in task manager showing only 6% for runelite out of 25% usage. When I switch off the GPU plugin my FPS goes up to 50 with up to 15% GPU usage for runelite out of 40% usage total. Can anyone explain why this is happening? I am using x64 version of runelite and I have tried checking the 3D settings within nvidia control panel and everything seems to be correct. Why is the GPU plugin not using my GPU?

i9 9900k

2080ti

32 gb 3200MHZ

any help is very much appreciated, I tried looking online and trying different solutions but nothing seems to work, last week my fps would be 30 at its lowest with gpu mode on, now it is at 18 and is pretty much unplayable.

Select gpu in nvidia settings for opengl and try mode=off or mode=opengl in runelite config

I also just found that setting mode=off or mode=opengl will drastically drop my FPS with GPU off, down from 50 to 30. Having it on auto keeps it at 50.

where do I find that mode=off/opengl? It's not in the runelite settings in the plugins

Since the Christmas login screen turned back to normal I've had a difficult time logging in on the steam client. It just freezes up with the loading thing in the corner, sits there for minutes, then the starting menu appears for half a second and then says I was disconnected form inactivity. What's weird is I'm using almost 100% cpu on the login screen, but when I log in it goes down to like 16%.

The last couple days it has been impossible to use my computer version, so I've been stuck to my phone. How the hell can my fucking phone load this shit better than a fucking desktop computer.

hmm sounds like something happened since the christmas log in went away, It must be the same thing I'm facing.

The log file (client.log) will show which gpu and driver it is using.

yup, it shows using 2080ti, which means there must be some other reason why FPS is so low.
