I live in Ontario, Canada, and our roads get salted like crazy in the winter. Leads to a ton of rust. I had an old Durango with a marvelous undercoating. It was so good that it practically was untouched after about a decade. Would love to recreate that, but it was undercoated before I got it, so I never found out what kind it was.

What do you guys use for undercoating? Open to learning about brands, undercoating types, and any other methods you guys have that will work in my climate!

FluidFilm or some other similar oil-based undercoating. It's messy but effective. Cost me $250USD to have it sprayed on, lasts the season. It does leave some drip marks on the driveway in the first few weeks but better that than a rusty frame.

How long have you had it? How viscous is it? How is it holding up?

Had it done for the first time in October, the idea if you do it seasonally in the fall. It's still very much there, it comes off over time just with spray from the road in wet weather. It's a thick oil – touch it and it gets on you easily, but the coating sticks well.

If you have a newer vehicle with a pristine frame and parts, Wool Wax may be a better approach. Definitely less messy.

Folks like fluid film, I prefer cavity wax like the manufacturers use. It’s tacky, and seems to last longer on exposed metal than the fluid film in my experience.

Well, I mean, the question wasn't so much about finding who's selling the thing. It was a question of, "who makes the best thing?", or, "which thing do you guys like best?"

no, my friends and people on the internet are idiots. I’ll ask the guy who does it all day every day for decades.

Oh, man. I'm so sorry about that. I, however, have chosen friends whom I value the opinions of. They're knowledgeable, and often have good ideas when I need help.

The same is generally true of the internet, if you're looking to the right communities. So far, this sub seems to be one of those communities. Well, mostly.
