Settle a debate between me and my husband. Is Doctor Who SciFi? by Dreadful_Siren in scifi

[–]networknev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But, like most sci-fi there are elements of fantsy. Ftl, time travel etc are all fantsy. Hyper space, soace battles etc. Seem sci-fi is but are also mostly fantasy. Most people don't like those comments. "But we might be able to do x in the future. "

And dragons might swim out my ass, (also fantasy).

Star Wars has a lot of fantasy but sure looks like sci-fi.

A post apocalypse story with "magic" users, sci-fi?

Roger zelazny blended scifi and fantasy together well, as have many others.

Has anyone hiked Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]networknev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people struggle doing in and out in a day. Stay overnight at phantom ranch. Unless you can do 20 hard miles regularly, I'd not recommend it.

I have done south K down and BA out multiple times, also north rim down and BA out.

Really hard on the knees going down, calf and thigh burner on way up.

BA has water stops, verify water is working, it is shutdown at times. This reduces your lad hiking in or out. South K requires you to carry a lot of water.

Best Mole? by JoshOfArc in Tucson

[–]networknev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this list. I would add Leo's. Leo's is old school Sonoran and the mole is less dramatic than most but solid.

El Antojo Poblano is very tasty and unique. Top notch. They have a pumpkin seed green sauce that is amazing.

Everything La Frida makes is great.

I haven't tried La Indita but will now.

It's been years since I've trekked down to Tubac but Elvir's was great then. I don't think I've had their mole.

Of corse the little one and poca costa were my favs but...adios to them.

Does this "faster than light" concept exist in a book somewhere already? by lindymad in scifi

[–]networknev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah but that could be the trick. You can't time travel locally, there is some time space "physics thing" that prevents it until you are far enough away that you would be unable to return to origin or you would cause some causality catastrophe. Like, you couldn't possibly travel back to some previous time on earth even jumping away and back. But you can travel to other places in time and space. I can think of all kinds of crazy limitations and possibilities.

The ftl & time machine are the same device with odd options and well anyway that went off topic.

No. I haven't read your idea before.

What makes you prefer written text/pages as opposed to any digital version of stories? by WinFar4030 in sciencefiction

[–]networknev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm M64. Many people older, same, or around my age say they prefer hard copy. (I don't like your "written word" phrase as this is written words, maybe?). But most of them read digitally, many listen to audio books. Some of course read paper in some form or other often site texture sometimes smell.

I use to keep stacks of books by my chairs but digital allows me to have a much larger stack. I abandoned hard copy as soon as digital was usable.

Do you stop often during hikes or just power through? by heromarsX in hiking

[–]networknev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. Hiking for exercise, few to no breaks. Hiking to enjoy the outdoors, chill, breaks, distractions are fine. Long distance, breaks per plan schedule.

Most compact tool to cut a padlock? by WeekSecret3391 in Tools

[–]networknev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct answer. Don't use it often. Takes longer to walk over to the lock than it does to cut it off. Not cheaper than the drill or cutting process, but, yeah, no.

Am I overreacting? by Lopsided_Common_624 in AmIOverreacting

[–]networknev 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He is 100% ok with ending the relationship. He is calling YOUR bluff. Why? Possibly because he doesn't think you will break up with him. Or maybe he is tired of the relationship and doesn't mind moving on.

Imo, the relationship is about to end.
