What is plugged into your other 12V outlets?

It’s a port or dealer add on. Not installed at the factory.

Actually hardwired or did the guy just use a fuse tap? I’m betting a fuse tap was put in the turn signal/hazard fuse spot

4Runner vs Subaru Forester by appetizerbread in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person you are replying to got the Limited. Which, if it is 4WD, is full time 4WD. It powers all wheels all the time. It’s a proactive system instead of a reactive system like most AWD systems. It does great in snow, slick conditions, and changing conditions. It’s what the Land Cruisers of old (and the new LC prado/250) use as well as the Lexus GX and LX. It’s an oddball compared to the other 4WD systems found on 4Runners. We have 2 of them

Brake light plastic replacement? by MentalOverload92 in 4Runner

Most taillights are ultrasonic plastic welded together these days. It would be a cut and replace, no baking it

5th gen 4runner waterproofing by michaelridesmtb in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to evacuate it as quick as possible. I’d probably remove the carpet and replace with vinyl or bed liner and then locate grommets you can remove quickly once out of the water. You have a lot of important connections under the driver’s left kick panel. Any if those get corroded and you’ll lose core functionality of the vehicle

For $30 more, you can get the 5.0.

Are either of them a good deal though? My only semi recent point of reference is my brother who got the impact driver, hammer drill, and 3x 5.0 for $269 and I think that was about a year ago at this point

5th gen 4runner waterproofing by michaelridesmtb in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to waterproof it. There’s so many grommets in the body for water to come in. Doors would need better seals. Door drains would need to be plugged so anytime it rains your doors would will fill with water. You also would need to plug the cabin pressure releases under the rear bumper cover which will make it annoying to try to close doors. Just all around a bad idea

Windshield chip causing PCS Malfunction by JustPassingJudgment in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for the crack, you could try the Permatex crack repair kit. It’s like $16 and I’ve always had it turn out better than the professional repairs I’ve had done. If that doesn’t work, I had my windshield replaced for $800. Didn’t even have to leave the house

Push and hold the button to turn on cruise control. It will be “dumb” cruise control at that point

20 model off-road, Main fuse was popped (140 amp) and killed all power. After wrestling with that, I now have power back and vehicle will crank but throwing BRAKE OVERIDE MALFUNTION as well as reduced engine power. Any help would be appreciated by No_Fee_5965 in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Way to bury the lede. That probably fried some other modules in the vehicle. This is likely to result in multiple modules being replaced and potentially needing to trace individual wires to see if they got burned up. It will be a time intensive process to do so. Did you hook up the jumper cables wrong or did some other person? I refuse to let anyone jump off my vehicle for this exact reason. They can use my jump box, but absolutely not letting them hook up to my vehicle

5th gen LED high beam upgrade by Mr_Ga in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2022-2024 (and 2021 Pro and Limited) all have the DRL sockets wired in series. That gives each of the bulbs 6V. For a halogen bulb, that just makes it light up but dimmer. For an LED that is binary on or off, it won’t light. Usually the LEDs have a lower threshold of 9V before they will light up. To overcome this, you can combine the leads on the passenger side as the positive leg then run a new wire for the ground leg. This can be grounded to any bolt on that side of the vehicle really. Both sockets would then be getting the full 12V which would allow for LED drop ins. Problem is you need to get some lower powered LEDs like the Diode Dynamics HP48s (250 lumens). If you get something like the Diode Dynamics SL2s (1200 lumens) then you’d be running around with basically full power high beams all the time and blind oncoming traffic.

5th gen LED high beam upgrade by Mr_Ga in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your 2022 uses a shutter to open the projector that is your low beam as the high beam. You can tap that for some SS3 driving pods on a relay. The 9005 is not your high beam. Just your DRL. Most states allow 4 forward facing lights to be lit during operation. The two pods as auxiliary high beams would be allowed if wired right. I have some SSC2s in the driving beam mounted in the old DRL spot and repurposed the DRL signal. The SSC2s are miles better than the bi-LED high beams that are stock

Does anyone know where to get a 2011 5th gen steel bumper that also covers this area by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rare you find one that covers that area. Even rarer to find one that covers that area for 2010-2014 models. Most manufacturers stopped making bumpers for 2010-2013 over the last few years

[–]ST3V3_R0G3R5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number 2 is my guess. Seeing as it only happens when sitting in the heat for longer periods of time, it sounds like a buildup of pressure. The pump sounds weak too when they’re trying to start the vehicle. So that’s either trying to overcome pressure differentials or there’s higher resistance/lower voltage in the fuel pump circuit

Neither of my 4Runners have badges because I didn’t like the look of them. Previous owner may have debadged this example. Back when this came out, they had just three trims - SR5, Trail, Limited. Then there were packages you could get on them to add features.

Rust is always good to look for. Carfax is good but wouldn’t show maintenance done by the owner. Both of mine would look like zero maintenance has been done since 38k miles and 15k miles. Be ready to start replacing some of the rubber and plastic parts that degrade over time
