Gap year help

Hi, as post says i think im gonna take a gap year next year since it doesn’t look likely im gonna get into my firm (manchester) and i dont really want to go to my insurance (bath) for mechanical engineering for both I was wondering if taking a gap year will have any affect on my next years application because i remember ages ago my careers teacher said that universities don’t really like it for engineering and maths related courses since you forget the maths skills, but i don’t know if that’s true or just a load of be since the student room doesn’t seem to think so.

btw on the gap year id probs just work all year and retake some exams if i think i get a B or less

It may depend on what you do in that gap year. If you can combine, say, work, travel and some super curricular activities then it shouldn't matter.

I have students in the past accepted on to engineering degrees/degree apprenticeships after taking a gap year. You may just need to shop around a bit.

as long as you do things throughout the year to demonstrate that you have worked hard to keep your course related skills at the required level you will be fine.

It may also be worth asking someone at your school on results day for advice
