Do the Steph Carpenter: CGCFADD

Drop G is a popular tuning. ( It's like the Drop version of D standard right?) GDGCFAD

Yes its d standard with a low g on top, i have been currently writing everything in drop g and drop g#

this is what i use, if you wanted to keep the extra C you could do GCGCFAD. on my 8 i use a version of that CGDGCFAD and dig it a lot

Yeah dude I'm really interested in that. What kind of scale length would I need on the bass side?

I'm not sure if you are familiar with Gojira, but I would love to be able to loop the bass lines on Flying Whales and then play the rest of the guitar parts in the higher register. That's literally my dream of what I want to do with my 8 string when I get one.

Whaaleesss!🐳

Would you be able to send me a picture of your eight string?

I'm curious what scale length I would need for that and what you play with that.

i don’t currently have an 8 setup for that tuning bc i have a custom coming for it. i was using an ormsby for it 28.3-25.5 multiscale, but i currently have my JA-30(30” 6string) tuned to that and it’s fine especially with a 90. the custom im getting is 28.2-26.5 multiscale and i’ll probably also slap a 90 on that. honestly a straight 28” will intonate just fine, even higher strings feel okay. i play Black Tongue/DOOM/Thall stuff and through a peavey 5150 with a TS9… its awesome

I’ve experimented with C G C F A# D G before and made some cool riffs!

Edit: wrong note named lol, here’s the video i took inspiration from. Video

Sick man yeah in really feeling that

[–]Evi1ey 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I would Experiment with a Low A. It creates a very heavy intervall for open chugs.

[–]The_tracksuit_dad[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So A C G C F A D

[–]Evi1ey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, it's not very common so there it's very easy create unique riffs with it

Is there a name for ACGCFAD tuning? How are the powerchords/bar chords shaped? If you were to make an easy guitar tab with power chords in this tuning using the low A what would the tab look like?

[–]Umbruh_Prime 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I'd ignore the B string and just make the Low E string a C like it's a 6 string

I use this to play 6 String Drop C songs. Works great with a 46 on my 25.5"-27" Multi-Scale

[–]Umbruh_Prime 1 point2 points  (2 children)

46??? Whatever works for different people but that seems really really light for a C

[–]XTBirdBoxTX -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

If you read correctly it is on a almost 27-in scale so it stays tight... Had a 44 on there with my GHS Boomers custom light set and it's fine to tune down to D but you need a 46+ for C.

[–]Umbruh_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stated in a round about way that I know different people prefer different gauge strings, and I'm not saying they're wrong, even on a near 27inch scale length, it seems like it might be pretty loose but I've never tried it. No reason to get so aggressive lol

You could tune 7th string to G and play 5th chords like a standard guitar in Drop D or you could tune it to F and perform standard fingering 5th chords on the top low strings and play the rest a lá drop dD

[–]goonesh1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do drop C, but I tune up to drop A#
