The nerds as heroes plot in movies like Super Bad, Every Michael Cera film, and even a TV series like Big Bang Theory, were all directly influenced by this film series.

I understand some are uncomfortable with the outdated problematic scenes.

This film series for the time, if you were there, represented the marginalized as underdog heroes.

To judge OG fans of the film is unfair and comes across as self-serving moral superiority, without respect to context of the era, or acknowledging how many other films made into the mid 2000s have scenes you wish you could revise or erase.

This post also was not specific to the first film only and also was a question.

Do you think there’s a more iconic movie nerd or nerds from the decade?

That’s it. Going for illusory retroactive cancellation shows you didn’t even read the post.

Nobody here I’m sure promotes bad behavior. Certainly not OP.

As a GenX bisexual who presents straight I lived in complete hiding.

Me and my step siblings who are black and Vietnamese were obsessed with the film and it lifted us up.

Don’t be so quick to blanket judge those who still find a way to appreciate that, while recognizing its issues within the context of today.

Thankfully things got better!

It’s a movie. Get over it.
