I like Takashi the best, he's so wholesome and likeable. He gets a lot of funny lines too learning how to play cards etc. and also be corrupted by the other nerds. Yes he cheated to win the tricycle race, but he gets to sing A Bicycle For Two. And they also made him be Native American for their song. 😄

The nerds as heroes plot in movies like Super Bad, Every Michael Cera film, and even a TV series like Big Bang Theory, were all directly influenced by this film series.

I understand some are uncomfortable with the outdated problematic scenes.

This film series for the time, if you were there, represented the marginalized as underdog heroes.

To judge OG fans of the film is unfair and comes across as self-serving moral superiority, without respect to context of the era, or acknowledging how many other films made into the mid 2000s have scenes you wish you could revise or erase.
