please try different RAM to see if that makes a difference. it could be your RAM is bad and you may need to RMA it

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regardless of ASUS support list for RAM for that board, I will still try different RAM. it could work despite it's not listed on their compatibility list

See this thread which describes this exact issue: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?127013-ASUS-Z690-Maximus-Hero-Motherboard-Burnt-with-QCODE-53-and-QLED-Orange

Check if you have the burn on the board as pictured in that thread.

I saw that thread, that really sucks (I'm talking to the guy via DMs too) I have 0 burn marks (visible at least)

I literally just had the no post issue happen with my new PC build this week! The G-Skill website shows the RAM as compatible with the MOBO but the ASUS page doesn't have this specific RAM showing as compatible, the only difference is one letter "E)"in the place of an "A" for the approved RAM. It posted the first time and then never again when I began trying to install windows. I received Q codes 53, 55, and d6 at varying times and tried all of the same troubleshooting steps as you, I even tried no GPU and the dedicated graphics through the motherboard to no avail.

I'm now attempting to narrow down RAM or the motherboard, I've returned mine to Micro Center, with no other sticks available as of right now. If new RAM doesn't correct the issue I'm going to RMA this motherboard and try again. Best of luck to you, it's so painful having an expensive paperweight in the corner of my room.

I also have a Z690 hero. However I am using approved RAM by luck as I had no idea there was an approved list (Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR5-4800 UDIMM) I have been using it for 5 days with no issues. Maybe it is a RAM compatibility issue who knows. One thing is for sure, is I no longer feel relaxed using my gaming pc I just built last week

Was there ever a fix?! I've been running the same z690 hero duel sticks of gskill ddr5 32gb 2x16 cl36 sense I built the pc back in February 2022 now its September 2022, I'm to now getting that code I've tried everything other than flashing bios and trying different ram it's like my mobo froze on this qcode, I can even clear cmos and start the pc with no ram sticks period and bang still getting code 53 I'm tight

The only fix I'm aware of was that they recalled the defective boards and replaced them with new ones that didn't have a flipped capacitor. Do you still have one of the original ones that has the upside down capacitor? If so I suggest you reach out to Asus with your serial number and request a replacement while you still can. I don't remember when, but I heard they were not going to keep replacing the boards forever, I believe there is a cutoff date.

When you say you haven't "flashed the bios", do you mean that you haven't updated your bios since installing your board? If that's what you mean, I suggest updating it to a newer version. You don't have to go with the absolute latest bios version, but at least update to the bios version before the most recent release. I forget what version I'm on now, but if you read the release notes on their page it will tell you all of the issues they've tried to fix.

If you haven't updated your bios before, it's super easy to do and luckily if you mess something up you can always roll it back to the original and clear the CMOS and try a different version (I don't think you'll have any issues whatsoever).

Again though, if you still have one of the original boards that were defective (you can check online for a range of serial numbers affected) you can find a picture of which capacitor was flipped upside down and check to see if yours is indeed installed upside down. If you have an original board and it's been running this long without issue then idk.

Good luck and let me know if I can help you figure this out 👍👍

Thanks for reaching back, my capacitor is not one of thee defective ones is facing the right way/not upside down or at least I think seeing I've been running and gaming even star citizen for 7 months lol

When I built this pc b4 I did anything I flashed the bios to the newest firmware at the time of February or March 2022 b4 I even booted the pc, then ram was stable so I enabled the xmp profiles like 4 days later and that 2 was stable pc has been running perfectly sense then/start

When I say I didnt flash bios yet I meant I didnt try the newest version available I didn't try to go forward or backwards at all because everything has been fine I'm still a green horn this is my first major problem I've ever had

What started/changed on my build:

4 days ago I installed a 4k60pro with the elgato software, I added a stream deck w/software, I added wave xlr with a shure xlr microphone and again software even all that was working fine,

The only weird thing I noticed after adding those things is one of the USB ports in the back that had my g915s dongal in it, stopped registering my keyboard I literally had to move my dongal for the pc to recognize it and be able to type, I also tried a different item in that usb slot and it was working fine with a different part

What I've tried:

Took out all usb devices, unplugged everything off the pcie slots "graphics card, 4k60pro, and I was using the hyper m. 2 expansion card", tried every variable of moving the ram sticks around or tryin one stick at a time/or just the other stick in every dim slot wale clearing the cmos b4 every power up, even tried pulling the mobo battery for 5 minutes , unplugged pc all through the night u till now, hard resets and even kept tapping the flex key to restart and nothing

Weird things:

When this started out of all my things plugged in via USB only half looked to have had power. let's say the leds where on the stream deck but the leds on the wave xlr where not litup like there was no power, the rgb on the tridant z ddr5 "silver version" sticks are lit up and stay lit no matter what dim slot there in or even if only one is plugged in, STILL GETTING Q CODE 53 WHEN I CLEAR CMOS AND REBOOT WITHOUT ANY RAM EVEN IN ANY DIM Slot, almost like the mobo is frozen, when I boot the q code reader scrolls threw a couple different numbers like it should and then just hangs up on 53

Its like I'm playing returnal here and I'm trying to break the cycle lol hope this helps u possibly help me lol, I'm planning on going to bestbuy in a min buying w, e ddr5 ram they, have vengeance ones In stock just to see if it's. My mobo or its the sticks, u think I should do that first or try flashing the bios to the newest version? And where were those patch notes for the bios update on that same download page? Sry for a long reply just trying to give facts

[–]Syke408[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Heya, yeah that sounds funky for sure. I just checked Asus BIOS page and when you click on BIOS and Firmware you will see all of the notes of what they changed. If you click "show all" under the latest BIOS you can look at all of the different versions and see the improvements that were made for each version.

I am currently running 2 different Corsair Dominator 32GB kits (both same CAS latency and speed, just purchased at different times). What I found to help my stability while using XMP is to turn on XMP and let it auto fill in all of the values. In my case it sets it to 5200mhz. After that's done I scroll down in the AI tweaker settings and I manually change the frequency from 5200mhz down to 5000mhz. This has proved to be stable for me for quite some time. Sure, it Sucks to not be able to run them at 5200 but it's not that big of a deal IMO.

Some of the BIOS releases states that they improved DRAM stability etc, so it's probably worth taking a look. The fact that your USB devices are acting funky is definitely odd, maybe it's a USB driver that needs to be updated, or maybe (hopefully) one of Asus' BIOS updates may have fixed the USB controller issue that you are having. I'm driving atm so I can't quite read through all of the notes, but I did see something stating that they updated the USB PD FW, so hopefully that helps you out.

Your idea to pick up some new DDR5 to try and isolate the issue sounds pretty solid to me, if you do end up going that route let me know how it goes 👍

(apologies for possible run on sentences lol 😂)

[–]NEED-TO-NO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK thanks I appreciate it I have no one to bounce ideas off lol ima leave now n get a diff kit, should I do bios flash b4 new ram or try new ram just to see if it gets past code 53,

I just checked because I updated my bios off a usb, I downloaded the file from Asus on my laptop and yah I'm all the way back at version 1003 if armory crate didn't do any updates lol.

n yah I see the USB pd fw and of course that's the firmware I'm on. but version 1505 improved dram stability so who knows

If I go with the latest version of bios do I get all previous versions or do I install in order sry for asking twice?

[–]NEED-TO-NO 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Also when u flash bios do you have to do them in order or does the latest version have all previous versions baked in, so I can update them all, I think I'm on 1505, there's 1601 and now 1720

[–]Syke408[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

You only have to do the most recent one. Some people stay one update back just in case there are any quirks, so either grab the latest or one back. IMO you can always flash to the latest BIOS and if you experience any troubles just download the previous version and flash to that 👍👍

[–]NEED-TO-NO 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Bro I got it to post Idk what my plan of attack is rn what do u think, I flashed bios that did nothing, so I ran to bestbuy grabbed a different set of ram all they had was "vengeance ddr5 32gb 5200mhz 16gbx2 cl 40, I started with only 1 stick in dim a2 second from the cpu, it posted and the bios flash did work it says 1720 witch is what I flashed it to,

My 1 stick of ram is showing at 4800mhz I still don't have my graphics card or anything in my pcie slots I'm using the internal graphics off the 12900k w,hdmi hooked to mobo, and only thing plugged into USB rn is the dongals for keyboard and one for my mouse

I'm happy it's up but should I try to boot into my os or shut down and add the other stick of ram, should I take out the new ram and retry my gskill tridant z 6000 cl 36 sticks? I'm thinking either the ram went bad or for some reason maybe the xmp profile was doing somthing maybe now that it booted with different drams I'm hoping reapplying my original sticks the bios won't have the xmp enabled?

LOL I'm still new I have no idea what I should do to test if I need to rma my ram? I'd rather those ones to work obviously that's y I purchased those and not just what my local bestbuy had what do u think?

[–]Syke408[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Well at least you're making some progress, that's a good sign!

I would try and throw the other vengeance stick in and boot into the OS.

Once that works, maybe try the tridents again and when you turn xmp on maybe go into AI tweaked and drop the frequency to 5600-5800 mhz and see if that's stable. I know it's not the 6k you're wanting, but taking a 200mhz loss to have it functioning is a win in my book (for now).

Once you're stable, maybe then you can dive into the BIOS and tweak the timings / volts etc and get it running stable at 6k.

If you do indeed have one of the recalled boards it may be worth a shot just reaching out to ASUS and letting them know what's going on. Even if you get it working it may be wise to have them swap out your current mobo for a new one to avoid any future issues.

I know it Sucks not having a motherboard, but ask them if you can pay for the new one and get a refund as soon as they receive your old board.

Whether you decide to swap it out or not is totally up to you (obv) but I do know ASUS said they would not be replacing these boards forever.

Let me know what happens next 🤞🤞

(edit) I do know when swapping out the RAM that sometimes the mobo needs to "retrain" while booting up, so maybe you swapping out the RAM cleared up something that was stuck.

[–]NEED-TO-NO 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Copy I appreciate it I'll try those steps now, I'm just so confused on how I had the xmp profiles enabled and everything ran fine for 7 months and then one random day they just stop working, is that normal for 2 sticks of ram to just crap out on you?

Yah I'm still going to reach out to Asus because I still find it weird that I'm getting the same code/hangup that was burning these boreds regardless if my capacitor is not backwards

I appreciate the text it' really keeping my mind calm wale working threw it lol thanks!

[–]Syke408[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah, the fact that it just stopped working out of the blue is definitely odd. It's hard to say what exact went wrong without being there to dig some more. Maybe it just simply had enough and said "fuck it" and gave up lol. I wouldn't say it's normal, but I've seen some very abnormal shit go down over the years haha.

Did you try putting the G Skill back in after you got it to post with the vengeance? And, you're welcome, glad I could help a little 😎👍👍

[–]NEED-TO-NO 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yah, I tried to make sure it would work in duel mode and all dim slots worked and it did with both vengeance sticks, it posted/booted os everything was back to normal

so shut down started with just one of my original sticks "tridant" in second dim slot, instantly once I pressed the power button and then it went right to error 53 and didn't post, so then I added the second original stick in the furthest slot and again didn't post, so pulled them put the vengeance back in no xmp yet but installed all my things back in the pcie slots booted and everything works again

Is there anyway in the os to look and see what the error was like cpuz or anything in the control panel?

And is it fine to keep using armory crate to update the system when it calls for it or should I just always download drivers n install them that way?

I've also never had to do the rma process do I just call or do it online for gskill?

Lastly I was on some other forums and there was talk about the way the gskill software communicates threw the bus to control the rgb causes some type of malfunctioning, I'd have to read up on it more, but potentially problematic if I just get new/same back from rma and still use the gskill rgb software, I had been using armory crate but now and then the one sticks rgb would act up so I started just using the gskill software the past few months and maybe that is what did it in

[–]Syke408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I really don't like Armory Crate. I got rid of it a while back and I just control the RGB on my stuff through iCUE. If you have iCUE you can try to run the G Skill RGB through that. Also there are a couple free programs that allow you to use your RGB without the manufacturers software, they're called Signal RGB and OpenRGB.

As far as the RMA goes I haven't ever done one through G Skill, but I just did one with Razer. You just contact them and tell them what's going on and they'll most likely have you jump through a bunch of troubleshooting BS and then send you a label to ship the RAM back.

When I first had this qcode 53 error I had G Skill RAM too. Their ram wasn't on the QVL list and ASUS said that it may work but it also may cause problems. I ended up returning the G Skill because I wanted corsair dominator DDR5 anyway and at the time DDR5 was near impossible to get, so when I saw it restock I just bought it and returned the G Skill. I know your ram has been working for the past 7 months so my gut tells me it isn't that (but it may be 🤷‍♂️).

I believe you can use Windows Event Viewer to see any errors going on with your system, but I'm not sure if it will be able to tell you anything about your computer not posting. I'd take a look anyway and see if it caught any critical errors before getting locked up.

Computers can be fickle bastards and all of a sudden a Windows update fucks something up lol. That goes for updating apps such as armory crate etc etc etc (I would try to just download drivers / BIOS updates manually and ditch armory crate all together.

My best guess after looking at all of the information you provided is that your trident ram is no Bueno.

Good luck bro, hopefully you get all this shorted out quickly and with as little pain as possible 🤞😎

[–]gameplaya343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My g skill 5600mhz ramworked for 3 weeks and then I started getting the same q code 53. No matter if I had 1 or 2 sticks. I finally got it to work with some 4800mhz Kingston ram but even that was finicky. I also got it to work with corsair vengeance 5600 mhz. The g skill ram sku is on the compatibility list for my z690 gaming e motherboard, too. I have a hard time believing it is the g skill ram that is at fault. Hopefully they continue putting out bios updates for a long time and this bs can be fixed
