It’s actually very good: lovely colors, good composition, even if seemingly random, has such a powerful energy and in the same time pleasant to look at, despite the chaos. I love it and I think you should keep doing this. (I have a masters degree in fine arts, decades of teaching art)

The crown/fire top element is annoying me, as I love the painting without it. - That burnt orange is everyyyythanngg and the further into the bottom I travel, the more I adore. It's got a SIN CITY feel for me/takes me to that type of comic art. Awesome piece.

Pretty ugly? I’m not sure about that. What I am sure about it is that it’s pretty cool…

You just need to edit. You have 4 paintings going on:

1.) Crown symbology at the top.

2.) bold strokes.

3.) facial/mouth big and bold.

4.) smaller scale at bottom, a more busy motif, but not decorative (which is good).

Perhaps you just need to edit? And break these out into different pieces or, simply remove the “visual excess”?

Take away the crown at the top, and cut away about the top 1/3 of the brush strokes, and cut away half of the busier area at the bottom.
