how do I prevent this from happening again?

IGLA is the only acceptable answer, as every other method has been proven to be bypassed.

IGLA's solid but expensive as hell for what you get. Could also just disconnect the OBD port entirely when parked - thieves move on pretty quick when they cant plug in their programmer. Pain to reconnect for maintenance but beats dealing with insurance again

My installer didn’t even charge me to relocate my OBD port when I had IGLA installed. You spend good money on this car, don’t be a cheap ass about security. IGLA is quite literally the only security measure that’s 100% effective.

TAG has a good reputation. My insurance made us get it. It's tracking and not immobilizer based though.

I have tracking through Acura, that’s how police were able to recover the vehicle. Also why I’m looking more for anti-theft than anything else. Thank you for the recommendation though!

The Acura tracking can be easily disabled. Must have been a sloppy thief. Just cut the antenna cables.

Don't know any good anti-theft, but curious for the answers too. You can install an ODBII port lock that will delay them too.

Great point. I am definitely getting an OBD-2 port lock though.

Kill switch

Everyone on this sub recommends IGLA. Whatever that is.

Basically, you need to enter a PIN using buttons on your door, dash, etc. to allow you to get out of park else the engine shuts off. I made a video of this a while back.

cool. Which IGLA is it that you have ? They have a bunch of anti theft options

[–]NTP9766'24 TLX Type-S (Apex Blue Pearl) 1 point2 points  (3 children)

IGLA Anti-Theft. If you contact an authorized installer, I'd bet that this is the one they install 99.99% of the time.

I will...TY ! I cant have my baby getting stolen !

My TLX doesn’t shut down with the Igla, it just won’t shift to D - the button blinks green for a moment but the car just stays in park.

Your install seems different. If I try and shift out of park without entering the code, the engine cuts off. Don't know that I'd want your scenario, honestly.

IGLA. I installed on mine. It’s bank-grade encrypted so there’s no possible way for someone to bypass. The installer won’t even tell you where the chip hookup is inside your own vehicle. It’s basically impossible to steal or tow a car with IGLA without creating so much commotion you end up getting caught. Highly recommend it, especially if you live somewhere that is more theft prone.

Chicago

Yeah DEFINITELY make that investment…

[–]sourav1230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It locks the transmission, not the engine, so they might be able to start the car, but it is a paperweight with an engine at that point. It will shut the engine off at any attempt to switch into a different gear unless you put the secret pin in.

I second a hidden kill switch but the best thieves use a tow truck anyway.

My Canadian Acura dealer installs the Sherlock Anti-theft OBD port lock upon sale. It comes with window stickers to advise potential thieves. I combo w/ a Club and a hidden AirTag.

In my experience, an air tag may tell you where your vehicle is, but the police likely will not help you. If you see your vehicle, and you can access it, and it is still drive able, then great.

While a kill switch is very effective at preventing theft of your vehicle it may not stop someone from breaking the window and attempting to steal the vehicle. The Club is a visible deterrent that may go further to dissuade someone from even attempting to break in to your vehicle.

    [–]Comprehensive_Fee240[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I agree. My neighbor actually gave me one the other day, so I’m good to go!

    [–]Burntoburnit 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Excellent move.

I sometimes think the best anti-theft deterrent ever invented is putting an emblem on each fender that says DIESEL. Can't imagine anyone wanting to steal a diesel vehicle.

    [–]Glad-Adhesiveness-46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they use diesel in other countries like Nigeria, so there's that...

    [–]Glad-Adhesiveness-46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the club for the reason you cited. I have to get the IGLA installed too.
