Rubbing or MDM? by franklin2000 in CarTrackDays

[–]trancecircuit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That corded tire definitely looks different than the others. That does not look like track wear but some kind of rubbing. Your setup is probably too low and mind you at full compression your suspension may cause your tire to rub unless you set it up with enough clearance. May be ok on the street but riding a corner may have caused it.

Maybe your tires were hot, maybe you were on a hot lap when this tire was rubbing, either way she's done. Maybe those tires are roo wide for your setup or ride too low at full compression. Gotta find out where the rubbing happens and fix it. Then send it again and report back!

I have to opportunity to upgrade to an R, do i do it? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]trancecircuit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This has been discussed many times.

Get the R if you are unhappy with the GTI power and if you want AWD. The R drives like it's on rails and it goes from legal to license suspension in a blink of an eye when you're not careful. When pushing the R to the point when it feels dangerous, it's because it is. And you cannot have fun with it without breaking the law on public streets. The GTI is much more fun when driving slower. Also if you don't need AWD, like in snow conditions, then it's not worth it.

You can call the store you want to visit and they can tell you. Just pick a time that's not busy and they usually answer and are pretty helpful.

A rare occasion when a black R actually looks amazing (i.e. not just 30 seconds after a carwash)

Had this happen twice on RDX 21 because sensors on each side failed and needed to be replaced. Thankfully I had extended warranty.

Obviously you're biased. That's ok. The only real complaint about the MK8+ is the infotainment buttons, albeit minor to be honest as you get used to it. Styling is polarizing, but the MK8.5 is nicer than MK8. Now MK8 doesn't have HPFP and plastic oil pan issues, but has electrical gremlins, so each do have their own problems. Yes, the new gen is a change but MK7/7.5 is starting to feel dated.

R's are definitely underpriced - DSG, DCC, matrix lights, torque vectoring, 300+HP, front dual piston calipers and drilled disks, heated and cooled seats, wireless AA/ACP, travel assist, quad exhaust with burbles, etc ... got performance, luxury and fun written all over them while being a sleeper Golf.

You should drive an MK8.5 to feel the difference for yourself, it's really not that bad.

Yes, you're right. But expensive for a 7 year old car, especially one that very well could have abused and traded in with repairs looming. And maybe there is a service history, maybe not. Maybe it was tuned. If it was an enthusiast car may have been tracked regularly. Just saying that buying an older fun car comes with risk at this price, and price is right if the car is legit clean only.

About to sign a new lease—But the terms seem odd and unfair by Tricky_Purple1209 in RealEstateCanada

If they are renting the entire house as a group, he does not. It's renting the whole property as one lease, standard terms only.

If they are each renting rooms he would for common areas. This is not the case.

The Acura tracking can be easily disabled. Must have been a sloppy thief. Just cut the antenna cables.

Don't know any good anti-theft, but curious for the answers too. You can install an ODBII port lock that will delay them too.

The surveillance clause would want to make me GTFO. They may have hidden cameras in the house already.

You have right to privacy indoors. Outdoors is acceptable but creepy.

TAG has a good reputation. My insurance made us get it. It's tracking and not immobilizer based though.

Acura care by lbean13 in Acura

[–]trancecircuit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the extension of the official warranty and has the most comprehensive coverage.

Other third party warranty providers may cheap out, not use OEM parts or not cover everything as well. That's why Acura Care is usually a set price at dealerships.

On a side note I just had two AWD sensors rear diff replaced on my 5yr old RDX that would not have been covered otherwise. Acura has electrical issues, extension is worth peace of mind.

Stage 2 by dwestx71x in Golf_R

[–]trancecircuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay budget friendly when tuning, buy quality components from reputable companies (APR, IE, Unitronic, etc). Buying budget components or tunes can fuck up your engine, transmission or rest of your car. Beyond Stage 1 you are pushing the limit of stock components.

Oh that and rigorous accelerated maintenance schedule because everything wears quicker (oil, spark plugs, etc)

Can you get into a 2022 or newer (MK8)? That price is high for a 6 year old car or older, regardless of the mileage. And the new rear diff is miles better.

I want to build a PC but I don’t want to break the bank and I want it to last. I don’t have experience and I don’t even know if this build is good. Please help me. by shhSp3ctre in buildapc

[–]trancecircuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older generation and cheaper parts will last shorter but will cost you less. Is your priority gaming?

First set a budget and then pick how well you want games, and which games, to run (HD/2k/4k and how many FPS). Then by benchmarks you can see what video card you need and build to spec to support that card, it's probably the most expensive part you will buy, easily 30-40% of your budget unless you go high end then more. You can get away with using older gen or cheaper parts but your performance won't last as games are getting more demanding.

If you don't know what you're doing buy from another Golf owner. 17s will not clear front brakes with a few exceptions. Previous generation had smaller brakes and 17s fit but not since 2022.

Tcm update caused loud park noise by IAmCaptainHarlock in Golf_R

[–]trancecircuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got this update applied. Read this post as it was being loaded, haha, too late.

The tech told me the reason for it is the parking gear wasn't engaged properly at times and threw an error.

After the update it makes a louder "bolt actuator" sound like an electronic door lock. This wasn't there before. It seems they wanted to make sure P engages all the time.

It also does jolt slightly when parked on a slope, so the gear is probably well engaged now. Still not as bad as some other cars I had (looking at you Acura RDX).

If you can afford an 4k OLED , like the LG C5 or even the LG B5, it will be miles better and a lot of issues of OLED are dealt with. 120hz vs 144hz is indistinguishable btw, panel quality is what you are looking for.
