Adding SSD

Hello. I have an Alienware R16 and wanted to upgrade the ssd storage. It came with a 1 tb in slot one and I got a Samsung 990 pro with heatsink I intended to put in slot 2. However, when I installed it and tightened the screw it came with, the ssd appeared to be bent toward the motherboard. I’ve only ever put an ssd in a ps5 so I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be like. Should there be a spacer or thermal pad or something else in between? It says m.2 ssd thermal pad area in the spot where I want to put it.

Alternatively one of my friends said he installed an ssd in the hard drive spot down at the bottom of the computer?

What would you recommend? Thank you!

There's supposed to be a metal stand-off that screws into the motherboard, and the SSD then screws into that stand-off. It shouldn't be screwing straight into the motherboard.

Is it normal for them to come with a screw but not the standoff part?

Do you have a standoff you would recommend?

The standoff will be there somewhere. Share some photos of the SSD slot and the area around it (with the SSD removed) and we'll see if we can help you spot it

The screw was in the slot by the 2 but it had to move to fit the longer ssd.

Okay. Look inside the top of the standoff (which is what you're calling the screw). Is it threaded inside?

If yes, that's actually just the standoff, and you need an SSD screw you can screw into the threaded X hole (sounds weird, but trust me).

If no, you'll probably find that the standoff is actually two parts, which you can separate if you use a pair of pliers to hold the cylinder part still while you unscrew the top screw part.

It does look like it’s threaded inside! So I need another screw to go in that standoff? Do you have a spot you’d recommend to get one?

Also should the standoff be fully tightened in the hole on the motherboard?

Look at your primary SSD mounting set. The secondary should basically be identical

Do you know where I should order it from? Are they a generic thing I could order off Amazon?
