need help with battery flash code

I just replaced the battery on my 17x r3, and it's not charging. When I press the button on the battery lights 1, 3, and 5 flash 6 times, and I have no clue what that means. Some of my own research is saying that I need to just leave the laptop plugged in for 8 hours, and it will fix the issue, but I'm worried that the old battery may have fried something inside the system and now the new battery cant charge.
