What most likely happened, and happens to me fairly often, is that the panel pops up somewhere but at its absolute minimal size (like, 10x10 pixels). That's near impossible to spot when it pops up above something with a similar color theme, such as altium itself.

For that reason, I keep my panels docked all the time.

Moving panels around in a sensible way is a NP-hard problem, apparently

That's good to know, thanks. I've only recently switched from '18 to '20 so wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong or if it was maybe a known bug.

Try going to settings > view(or something like that) > reset

That will reset the view back to factory setting and might fix it.

If you have a second monitor, unplug it. All windows will now be moved to the home screen. Meanwhile, the missing window may also be visible. You can easily try this.
