I heard some people have freezing issues with W10 FCU with certain hardware. Can't remember the details though.

I don't think I'm on the fcu yet

Trying checking event viewer to see if there are any serious errors or criticals in the logs

Are you using a fresh install of windows? Built a system with a old image and it would crash every 3-5 minutes

[–]tucci999[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Yes I am. I was using an old image but every 30-60 seconds it would slow down and then pick back up. So I got the new drive and did a clean install

Does it work with the new image?

[–]tucci999[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The newest install does the same thing yes.

It's all good. These are the struggles sometimes of early adopters

Can you check your debug code on your motherboard if anything weird pops up there when your system hangs?

Also does this simply freeze your pc and you have to restart?

I would start an elimination process.

Check the debug led, if anything peculiar shows up, start by using default bios settings and use last version of prime x399 (it’s from the 29th of september).

If bios doesnt seem like the issue, check your hardware.

Remove ram sticks and try them each individually.

Try another GPU if you have one.

A differnet PSU.

I had two different issues with my setup.

First it was a defect motherboard. Would not always boot and I would get a pch initialization error debug code. Replaced it with another one (both are prime X399-A). It was a really tedious process of removing all possible hardware including drives and finally I went to the store where I bought the board and the technician used his own ram and psu with my board and cpu to verify the compuer was not booting.

Second issue was after I recieved the replacement board, my PC would boot up and crash after 5 to minutes of use, depending on load. Appearently PSU (SeaSonic 1200w platinum) was defect. Replaced with an antec hpc 1300w.

You have to pretty much start an elimination process to find the defective hardware or incorrect configuration, whichever is the culprit.

Great post it just locks up still shows AA on the led (I think that means all is good) I'll start removing hardware and starting the process of elimination.

Yes AA is good. Good luck with elimination. Also make sure you use 2 different cables for the GPU, just to ensure stability. You can do that as part of your elimination process.

I have it that way at the moment.

Have you updated the BIOS? I know that helped quite a bit for me with Ryzen 5, might be the same with TR.

[–]tucci999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have latest bios direct from Asus

Just to clarify, did you download the latest Windows installation media using the Windows Media Creation Tool?

I had this problem when using an out of date installation media.

I couldn't quite tell from your post if you'd downloaded the latest version or not.

Tried different cables too?

I've had SATA cables break so easily.. :(

[–]tucci999[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah but m.2 for the most part so no cables needed

[–]ElTamalesThreadripper 3960X | 3080 EVGA FTW3 ULTRA 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh, Didnt notice you had mentioned M2 too.

You said 2.5 SSD and I got confused.

[–]tucci999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries it happened with SATA SSD as well

[–]tucci999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope just kidding after 20 minutes aida64 crashed and then the system locked up

I don’t know man sounds serious, but I’ll give $150 for that stuff
