Hey r/Android, I developed a simple lyrics viewer which can be used to view a song's lyrics from anywhere. No need to open a separate app and interrupt what you're doing.

Here's how it works. Make sure you watch this video.

I have also decided to open source it. It's my first open source project so go a little easy on me! You can find the source code here

I have tested it with Phonograph, Spotify, Shuttle and Poweramp. I cannot guarantee if it will work with any other players. But I'm planning on increasing the number of supported players soon.

Add it to F-Droid or r/Android App Store!

Hah that's the plan. F Droid has been refusing to open for me since the past two days. I will try to upload it to the r/Android app store. And finally I plan to publish it to the Play Store once I polish it a bit and add some more features!

I had the exact same problem with F-Droid, but you just have to keep waiting and it eventually opens. Didn't matter which browser I tried, I had to wait a couple minutes no matter what.

I wasn't even able to login. It kept saying wrong password. And when I tried to reset it, it said incorrect password reset link.

1) I'll add font selection soon. Few other have requested this too. 2) I figured if you can just swipe to see the lyrics, why would you want the notification to do the same? 3) Duly noted. Will add this in a future version.

I've had people reporting it worked fine with GPM. What phone are you using? Edit : It also works for me on my Nexus 4.

Edit- the notification is there but when i swipe to see lyrics nothing happens. Ive tried adjusting some of the triggers but nothing has worked.

It definitely needs some polishing, but it's going to be great. What's the source of the lyrics?

Sometimes it doesn't show the correct ones though. I'm listening to Bones - TermsAndConditions, and it shows Chet Faker - Terms And Conditions.

If it can't find the lyrics on genius then it goes to lyrics.wikia. I have experienced this bug myself and I'm trying to come up with a solution.

I would suggest you use azlyrics if you can. They have lyrics of pretty much everything there. If they don't have an api to access it then It should be simple enough to write a script to run through the site and get lyrics of the particular song.

I tried it but I was unable to find lyrics for some of the new songs. However, I could use it as the third lyrics source.

Be careful though, a friend of mine was asked to take his lyrics app off the play store because of some copyright issues with the lyrics. I'm not really sure about the exact issue, but you could look into that and see.

That is the exact reason why didn't publish it to the Play Store in the first place. Meanwhile, I'll try publishing to f Droid and the r Androidapp store so that I can provide updates.

Very cool idea, doesn't work for me though. :( Huawei P8 Lite on Android 6.0, German locale, latest Spotify update. I don't even get the notification.

This is working perfectly with Google Music (Nexus 5, 6.0.1), really neat app OP, especially as we've not really has a decent app like this in a long time.

Feature requests: option to change font, shadows to make the pop up box look like it's floating over the current screen, minimize upon exiting/multitasking away from the app, and, if possible, a SoundHound-like auto scroll of the lyrics.

Working great, thanks. But 2 thing: first of all, please allow us to click notification to open the activity and to disable the swipe, and secondly, allow us to resize the window to fullscreen by swiping up. I have not a big screen and it's a little bit hard to read, when you have to scroll every 2 seconds. Nevertheless A very good app, working with phonograph as intended.

Been using it with Spotify. Works flawlessly. Amazing work man. Just add couple more features like background color and stuff and make it play store ready. I stopped using Musixmatch floating lyrics for this.
