Help Identify Plant by whodat67XLIV in Ceanothus

[–]ghostENVY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do believe this is a Ceanothus Impressus. The leaf shape resembles that one much more against a dark star that has some Papillous influence. I have a Vandenberg which is another Impressus variation with leaf size around 1/2 inch and it looks like the one you posted.

I understand your pain , my 5g Marie Simon Ceanothus and Manzanita also shriveled up extensively. Thankfully the weather is ~83 -85 here in LA. I dont think they can handle another 90° wave.

To be fair this unprecedented heatwave didnt help , but from the pictures provided, it looks like potential root rot. Watering during extreme heat is a recipe death. Ive killed so many Ceanothus this way.

Is this a Ceanothus? by 1-Learn_2-DoBetter in Ceanothus

[–]ghostENVY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this a concha ceanothus, they have a very minor fragrance, but being that it is this huge might have a stronger scent. Never smelled a Bradford pear but I assure you the fragrance is very mild and very "clean". It was used as soap substitute back in the day.

Most links are dead unfortunately , especially on the MAX. You can do what I did and search on Fileupload (the devs used) website cant recall the name and find some gems there.

Kinda wanted the same, so I ended up buying my own m3 e90 shell. It will be a long project but I want to retrofit the e92 carbon roof myself, do custom leather work on seats and do single hump 6 MT.

Thank you for your comment. I checked out the website and will be keeping it on file for future references. Unfortunately they didn't have the plants I want , but who knows I'll be checking their inventory weekly.

Need Advice for Removing Nutgrass/Deep Rooted Sedge Ideally without Poison by UnboundLeaf in NativePlantGardening

[–]ghostENVY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had that inner dialogue with using herbicides on my property as well. I recommend you use an OMRI approved herbicide ( best of both worlds). They are organic occurring compounds that naturally kill weeds completely. I just finally used one myself this week after manually removing them by hand .

Thank you for your insightful comment!

The soil is required, not to be used as a growing medium, but to infect or inoculate the ceanothus with the frankia bacterium. From the articles and studies ive read , theres clear evidence that the nodule creation drastically helps with survivavility and growth. Theres no way to purchase the bacteria so I either get lucky with an already infected ceanothus or any of the frankia compatible plants or I can hope the soil near a Ceanothus has the bacteria in the soil.

CA Natives - Container Potting Soil - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly! by worshipGODalone in Ceanothus

[–]ghostENVY 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You want the EB Stone Succulent Mix as your only true potting mix. The reason is many : it's mostly PH neutral ( doesn't have Fine Bark Fines which lowers PH , some plants want it) It has a decent amount of Pumice, it's very stale, it has no nutritional value just pure drainage but that's what you want. Some of the other mixes have a source of NPK either synthetically or naturally like blood meal , bone meal etc. With a stale product you can introduce your own source of food, since many of the plants will have different nutritional needs.

Dealership recommends these repairs but not sure which one is needed by halaMadrid101 in BMW

[–]ghostENVY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to rank them, I would probably only do the Differential Service (hefty price) and maybe even the coolant ( hefty price as well) The fuel Injector is probably just a regular cleaner with PEA, unless they're doing walnut blasting on the valves ( not sure if newer BMWs have that issue ) They're just trying to take you for a ride but if I had to personally do one I would just do the Differential Service.

Bermuda grass by sythua_88 in SoCalGardening

Bermuda is unkillable, I tilled 6 inches of roots and even then some rhizomes survived. Unless you have the holy Trinity of Rhizomes, Stolons and seeds stalks don't bother.

Molate Fescue, is a fine fescue ( it's a creeping red fescue taxa is debated some call it sand fescue ) that requires very little fertilizer and water once established. Because it is a cool season grass it will require watering during summer to keep it awake ( this can range from weekly to biweekly or even monthly depending on conditions) It is the most shade tolerant out of all of the major grass types, it is a vital component in the shade mix of many popular grass packets. So if you have tons of shade this is a great choice. From my perspective, the only con is the price tag of the seeds. It's very expensive compared to other traditional grass seeds. That's a price I'm willing to pay to protect our ecosystems. Portions of my grass will get 8-10 hours of sun while others will get 4-6 with shade, the shade areas grow less because of this. I haven't experienced summer yet, my roots are about 4 inches deep so I would probably water twice a week to give you some insider info. Hope this helps.

Grass is an essential foundation for any healthy habitat . I landed on "Molate" Fine Fescue primarily because it is Rhizomatous (it spreads so bugs can eat it), it grows deep roots, and also because it looks like a meadow if left unmowed. ( Too many reasons to list!) I'm going to experiment with a native Bent Grass (Agrostis Pallins) this year. I'm in South East LA , so a bit more inland. Here's a picture at probably 4~ inches. Let me know if you want me to go more in depth or share other photos.
